Chickens for Col. Sanders, Jews for Hitler, Log Cabin Republicans... |
|
I'll never figure out the log cabin republicans, I know repubs generally vote against their own better interests but Jesus! What makes these people tick? I just don't get it.

2. The crazy thing is though... |

They're the ones who are doing something about DADT and DOMA, while our party's leaders up in DC are "We don't know if we can do this. We don't have the votes. Maybe next year. Sigh."

6. Tax-cut loving fiscal conservatives, mostly |
|
Based on David Rakoff's essay "Beat me, Daddy", Log Cabin republicans are tax-cut loving fiscal conservatives who consider themselves to be the front-line of LGBT rights within their own party. When viewed in that way, it makes a certain kind of sense. The problem is, in order to support the fiscal policies they favor, they endorse the candidacy of politicians who oppose LGBT rights. Hell, the platform of their own party opposes LGBT rights.
I recommend reading the Rakoff essay. It can be found in his book "Don't Get Too Comfortable"
It won't convince you that the Log Cabin Republicans are necessarily a good thing... hell, Rakoff himself was still as befuddled by them as he was before researching his essay. But it's a funny read, and sheds some light on how the Log Cabinites justify their own puzzling existence.
