Poll question: Government is not the enemy, nor is it the solution
it should be a partner with we, the people, in creating a more perfect union.

Can you think of any examples that support or disprove this point?

1. Sometimes it can be a really good solution.
I refuse to fall for these "middle of the road" compromises.

3. Nope. Just saying that sometimes it's really OK to support government.
It does good things in general. Some things I don't like, sure. But I'm not driving off half-finished bridges, or drinking pond water or wondering who will put out my house if it catches fire. That kinda stuff. There's no need to back off with some wimpy "government isn't the solution" BS. Sometimes it's the ONLY solution.

5. I agree
But those types of things are done in support and coordination of the people. I was talking of a nanny state approach that, for example, banned soda pop or limited the amount of money a company could earn. Extremism on either side without the consent of the majority.

4. "Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state, an intolerable one

Thomas Paine

"From such beginnings of governments, what could be expected, but a continual system of war and extortion?" Thomas Paine

"History has tried to teach us that we can't have good government under politicians.  Now, to go and stick one at the very head of government couldn’t be wise." Mark Twain

7. A partner with? I thought it was we, the people?
A partner with makes it sound like Government is some other form of life in and of itself. As if it feeds on our collective energy for its own sake. It being the dominant force.
