5. Anyone else recall "Industry on Parade" on |
|
B&W TV in late 1950's?
Obama needs a WPA/CCC/CETA type program focused on planning, engineeering, infrastructure, energy, culture, and the environment.
Towns, small cities, and urban decay need to be competitive at filling traditional niche markets. The corporate box stores and chains siphon capital from local communities rather than re-cyle locally or regionally and have killed local or regional small business. Tax, lending, permitting, regulation burden, and other economic policies that at least level the playing field but preferably favor local and regional is an easy answer as well.
These are not the only answers but the low hanging fruit to help the majority of Americans is ignored to favor big monied interests and the military.
The ideas and restructuring that would help is simple but evidentally not politically viable nor a debated option with Congress or the WH. The obvious (like Universal Health Care and Glass-Steagal re-instatement) are not part of the conversations in the "Progressive" legislation passed.

6. My dad was absolutely brilliant and well educated. |
|
But he grew up on a farm and knew hard work. Worked hard to put himself through college and enjoyed hard work.
He always said that the problem with our country was that people didn't know how to do things. You had better believe that we learned how to do a few things.
Science is the study of how things work. If you never work with anything real, how can you really understand how real things work?
Every child should learn how to do things. Our schools emphasize academics in a void -- too far from real experience. It's sad.

7. Not to mention the American small businesses Mike highlights. |
|
I've gotten a number of leads on the finest quality American products from his show. It's not just the workers, he shines light on the small businesses too.
