|
Edited on Wed Oct-13-10 08:43 PM by hughee99
I'm not sure that there's anyone who's both "formidable" and would potentially run against him in the primary. And in any case, I don't think anyone is "formidable" enough to beat him, though I think Hillary would give him a better run than anyone else.

Or he may run in the general election on a third party ticket. Thomas Friedman would love that.
I know some people don't like it but Obama is more likely to be challenged from the right. That's who will have the corporate cash to be a serious candidate.

You know, I can at least respect where the dean 2012 or Kucinich types come from. They want someone from the solid left wing of the party, and feel Obama is to far to the right. I can disagree with them, but at least respect them.
How the bloody &*^% does Hillary Clinton come off as more liberal? If anything, she would move farther to the right, because she and her bloody husband were the ones that moved the party, and the whole nation, to the right?
Or is that that people have no problem with the right, as lnng as the person looks like them?

54. I agree. There is hardly any difference between Obama and Hillary. |
|
In the campaign there were differences which is why I supported Obama. Eg,
Hillary supported mandated insurance, Obama did not.
Hillary supported a Commission on the deficit, Obama did not.
Other than those two issues, I can't really think of any other real differences.
Both are hugely involved with Wall St.
It was the mandated insurance issue that swung me over to Obama's side.
However, since he's been elected, Obama has changed his mind on both those issues. I think that Hillary lost based on the mandated insurance issue.
So now there is not a single issue on which they disagree. It would be a very boring campaign if they were to face other in a race for the WH.

It'll be interesting to see how that plays out.
As to Hillary and Dean, I can't see either of them taking on a sitting Democratic president, unless God (Him/Her/It)self appears on Mt. Ararat and commands they do so.

|
Its hard to tell, I'm not sure Obama will even be running for a second term as yet. If he decides not to run again, then the whole field will be open, although Hillary would be a favorite. If Obama does run for a second term, then it is less likely he will get a formidable challenger, unless its clear that he would lose the general election because of unpopular poll numbers. Then a whole host of Dems might challenge him.

|
if the economy is STILL in the toilet... I don't see Obama WANTING to run for a second term. If the economy were the SAME as it is today and next month is Nov/2012... Obama get's beat badly... like Nixon vs. McGovern.
So... one of two things will happen. The economy has recovered and Obama wins big beating a sacrificial Teabagger like Palin.
or
Obama calls it quits and we see a new face of the Party.

At least HALF of the ticket would be guaranteed progressive then.
But yeah, no, I'm still giving Obama another term. Shitheaps to the magnitude that the Failure Fratster laid on us takes time to clean up. The problems is greedbag corporations, the wealthy and their bodyguards, not politicians. I don't view him as a complete disappointment considering what we just weathered last decade.
