"Chicago police say they had to find some extra-large handcuffs when they arrested a reputed West Side gang member who told them he weighed 625 pounds.
The defendant, 31-year-old Maurice Douglas, was charged after Tuesday night's arrest with five counts of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and one count of possession of heroin. He also was cited for not having a valid Firearm Owner's Identification Card.
Officers say they found 17 grams of heroin in Douglas' home, plus four loaded handguns and an assault rifle with 21 rounds in the clip.
His attorney says Douglas was admitted to Loretto Hospital after the arrest because he was having difficulty breathing.
He would be sentenced to boot camp for six months and if he completes boot camp sucessfully, the charges would be drop to an infranction and expunged. That would be incentive to lose all of that weight. I am more concerned with the costs towards the health system than the criminal posession of a gun.
