Let Also Thank The U.S. Of A For The Miners Rescue.....

......The Drilling machine and rig came from Pittsburgh........The consultation about health concerns came from NASA...The drilling machine and crane operators came from Pittsburgh as well....

...So tonight on this night of celebration lets not forget to recognize the USA contribution in the success story....

Give them a virtual pat on the back.

2. All today it was product placement time
Don Lemon talked for a couple of minutes about the special $150 sunglasses the miners were wearing. This morning CNN talked about various products donated for the rescue and how FedEx shipped it all to the site. Which lead John Roberts to show what an airhead he is when he made a comment about being able to rely on "brown" to get things there on time. I got a good laugh out of that one since hubby works for FedEx Office.

All day it was a couple of miners out, then time to discuss another corporate donation towards the rescue effort. While I am glad the companies helped, I am disturbed that our so-called media have so little compunction about using their air time to advertise for those huge companies.

3. The companies donated their products/services, I think, in which case they
should be thanked, IMO, don't you?

That's funny about "Brown"!

5. But the mentioning of it was obviously scripted and forced
It's one thing when the praise and mention are a natural part of the story. But if it has to be scripted and shoehorned into the narrative, then leave that part for the advertisements.

6. Ah -- I didn't catch it. I assumed it was kind of like when they'd say "NASA
sent so-and-so over"... like that. It's too bad they did that, I agree.

4. NASA helped design the rescue capsule too
http://www.aolnews.com/world/article/nasa-engineer-clinton-cragg-thought-small-to-design-rescue-capsule-for-chilean-miners/19667140

Fascinating global effort. Maybe we should put engineers in charge of world peace. They didn't get Iraq WMD wrong.

13. Engineering student joke
An engineering student was riding his new bicycle around campus. He stopped to talk to a friend who was another engineering student. His friend asks, where did you get the new bicycle? He replies, oh you’ll never believe it. Yesterday this beautiful blond came up to me riding this new bicycle. She jumped off her bicycle, took off all her clothes, and says to me, take whatever you want. So I took the bicycle. His friend replies, good choice, the clothes probably would not have fit you anyway. . . .

8. Wow! Sometimes it seems like thanking the U.S. or being proud of it for anything
is frowned upon here at DU.

9. I'd say that in the case of the Chilean mine rescue
it would be far more gracious to stop patting yourselves on the back. The USA was one small part of a TEAM that effected this rescue. Sometimes it is about other people and countries.

10. Hmmm. How "small" a part of the TEAM was the U.S.?
Cannot a team member pat itself on the back? Cannot the people of the U.S. be proud of the efforts of their TEAM members? It would be gracious to at least be able to admit that is possible.

That the U.S. did not do everything in the rescue does not mean that the part it played was not important and to think otherwise would seem to be foolish.

11. Of course you can
If it's done with restraint, dignity and an appropriate amount of deference to the others in the team. Otherwise you just look like big sooky babies.

14. I caught the word "also" in the OP.
I would think that covers your complaints, but if it doesn't, by all means, continue grumbling.
