My first TP debate

and all I have to say is these people are there to feed the crazy.

Our incumbent congressional representative Norm Dicks, 32 years, agreed to a debate with his TP opponent. The League of Women Voters held it in a local church. The rules were that the audience was not supposed to applaud yell or otherwise disrupt the debate so more questions could be asked.
Supporters of the TP candidate chose not to follow those rules. The moderator repeated the rules a few times and then said the debate would be stopped if the rules were not followed. Of course they kept up their outbursts and TP guy responded with a smug expression - but the debate continued.

TP guy started with the idea that we should all march together toward a brighter future - and oh yeah - abolish the Dept of Energy and Education. As the debate continued, he got louder and more deranged until finally in his closing remarks he kept yelling that he was about the truth and Dicks was a liar. Half the hall gasped and the other half applauded.

The moderator then concluded the event and a young woman started screaming and yelling at Dicks. League women tried to calm her down but she then started yelling at them. She finally yelled her way out the door.

This is not a political movement - it is a mental illness movement. Once reasonable people now feel free to act like asses in public.

2. Exactly

and that is what scared me about the event today. It was attended mostly by older retired people who were definitely not raised to behave that way but they have plenty of time to listen to Beck et al. Some of the older fellas (who did most of the yelling) are dealing with mental disturbances as it is - memory loss, pharmaceutical side effects etc.

The man at Kelly was so deranged he thought children were his enemy!

Our threat is not from militias now as much as it is individuals becoming unhinged.

4. We had a candidate night in a community north of Dicks'...

district. Jay Insley and all the Dems, with all the Repubs. I went to give moral support in case of Teabaggers. I know the moderator, ( a sensible Repub - if there is such a thing) and he and the League of Women voters handled the situation perfectly. Tight, tight questions and time for response and rebuttal.

Oh... and the County Sheriff came and had a few funny, kind, good-ol' boy words about civility and such. The message was very clear. Be an asshole, and the funny, kind, good-ol' boy will disappear and be replaced by something entirely different.

The Dems ... incumbents... came off as reasoned and knowledgeable. A couple of the Repubs were absolutely bizarre. Insley unloaded on his opponent.. he was fed up with the bullshit he's been hearing. (I sent him a letter with a check in it today.)

Dicks is a Dem, but he brings home a lot of bacon to his district in the way of military spending. I wonder if the Teabaggers know how much it will cost the state/district if Dicks is replaced by some asshole with no political suck at all, and no friends after the first outburst.

Dicks is old school and has kept Bremerton and the Olympic Peninsula afloat with the money he brings in but they do not care about that. I really think it is all about the crazy anger.
Dicks came across well too but he was mad as a hornet by the end. As Democrats we were good kids and obeyed the rules!
I am going to suggest a police presence if there is another one.
