Why did the Vermont GOP fight so hard to get rid of instant-runoff voting in Burlington? |
|
Is it because they know they're the minority and whipped all the teabigots to turn out and overturn the reform while Democrats and Progressives stayed home, assuming their natural majority would prevent a reversion to an electoral system that would allow Republicans to win because of a split in the progressive vote?
Or is there just something I'm not getting that makes first-past-the-post the fairest system when you have one centre-right party, a left-liberal party, and a social democratic party?

Plurality voting sucks. The U.S. needs IRV for the Senate and for various executive elections at the federal, state, and local level along with some form of proportional represenation for the House.
