Is there really such a thing as a "global learner"? I heard the term the first time at a soft skills course they made us take recently, and there it was presented like there are global learners and local learners, the later being people who are naturally good at solving a specific problem presented to them, but have problems knowing how this problem relates to other problems, while the former are naturally good at getting the "big picture", but may have troubles solving a specific problem if no further information of its relation to the big picture is presented to them.
From experiences during my education I discovered that I would place myself in the "global learner" category. However, I have always kind of suspected that it is just code or an euphemism for "lazy slob who doesn't do his homework, and is easily distracted/ does not stay focused". I would like some confirmation that global learner is something that is actually recognized in pedagogics.
