Bachmann Wants to Restore America to 13 states.
Despite the fact that she generally has no idea what she is talking about, Rep. Michele Bachmann is planning on holding weekly classes on the Constitution for new members in the next Congress.

I wonder if she'll teach these freshmen members of Congress what she told WorldNetDaily's Burt Prelutsky, which is that they should be trying to get the federal government back to its "original size":

Q. If, with a snap of your fingers, you could change anything about America, what would it be?

A. Reduce the federal government to its original size and constitutional limitations and to restore the 9th and 10th amendments.

Of course, the population of the United States back when the government was at its "original size" was just under 4 million - it is now over 310 million. For that matter, there were only 13 states, Congress only had 26 seats in the Senate and 69 seats in the House and met in New York City.

But, according to Bachmann, it would be a dream come true to see our government reduced to the size it was back when the country had only thirteen states.

1. She's an idiot, but I doubt she means that
Probably talking about all the programs she deems to be beyond the scope of the Constitution, which to wingnuttery like hers, means the government does nothing but coin money and field the military and have a post office.

9. what some of these fols don't realize is that many of the
federally financed programs they rely on are not mentioned in the Constitution Social Security and Medicare aren't mentioned but neither are roads and bridges. I guess they're both unconstitutional. Actually, if I remember my American history, it was a major controversy in the early 19th century as to whether the federal government should build and finance "internal improvements" such as roads and canals. All of the small government repukes should be thankful their point of view didn't prevail back then as they drive their suv's along the "big government" built highways.

8. It is, when appropriately labelled as such
Edited on Fri Oct-15-10 04:05 PM by Uben
Don't worry, I've done it myself, but folks do tend to take things at face value unless otherwise noted. I scroll down a bit and insert a "/sarcasm" so people will know. We have had trolls say things like that on hit and runs and if not labelled as sarcasm, people will start alerting the post, causing our dear moderators to have to take action. And, as you may know, once the mods make you disappear, you are cast into oblivion. I know people whose families are still looking for them! It's ugly, downright ugly!

7. If we ran the whole country it would be fine...but....
the wingnut-heavy states get to vote too.

What we do is finance most of the red states...like Alaska and Alabama and Mississippi.
