BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! Sestak Just Locked PA, Bank On It!
Edited on Fri Oct-15-10 09:32 PM by Beetwasher
The Sestak campaign put out a new ad today, and it's not quite like any other one I've ever seen.

And it gives the phrase "Friday News Dump" a whole new meaning!

Done deal, I'm telling you. Perfectly timed and effective. Done. (Do NOT take this by any means as a message to do anything less that GOTV more than ever in PA, but this ad is a game changer, trust me).

8. I HATE BLANK LINKS!
Sorry for the caps but could you include SOME info on what a person can expect when they click on your link??

Just posting a link without ANY info at all other than 'SESTAK!!1111!111", isn't helpful. Many people are on dialup, and many are wary of clicking on a link without a LOT of compelling evidence.

Help us out. Please.

often. I love it, and I so hope you are right. As a PA resident, I have stood behind Sestak from the beginning---I think he is great. And then again, the alternative terrifies me. I cannot even believe there are people who are supporting Toomey.

45. No, it's not.
Michael Steele did it here in Maryland, claiming that his opponent (Ben Cardin) would go so negative on Steele that he'd claim that he hated puppies. Including a shot with his Boston Terrier. Cardin didn't need to go negative on Steele. Steele opened his mouth, and the voters of Maryland stopped laughing long enough to vote for Cardin.

74. I know that's right. We didn't fall for Steele's shit like he pulled in 2004...
Posing as a Democrat; lying about how black Democratic leaders supported him; he and Ehrlich going to Philly and hiring poor, homeless blacks to campaign in Baltimore, telling voters that Election Day was on a Wednesday; lying about being pelted with Oreo cookies at an NAACP event at Howard University. The list goes on and on. Cardin ran a very respectable campaign. I've been especially proud of him!

31. It is a good (and funny) ad but I doubt it alone will close an 8 pt gap.
I mean I know the financial crisis was caused by Bush & company but I still don't like the bank bailout.

I have to think a lot of independents/undecideds will see it the same way.

Your "he locked PA" might be premature.

from nine different polling organizations show him 6 to 11 points behind.

Hardly a lock. There may be an upset, the polls may have gotten it wrong but calling it a LOCK is hyperbole.

34. I Hope That Belle Does For Sestak What Fala Did For FDR
I haven't watched the video, but I do remember my history. FDR gave a hilarious--and devastating--rebuttal to Republican claims that the Navy sent out a destroyer to retrieve Fala after he'd been left behind during an FDR sea trip. I hope that Belle has the same effect on Sestak's opponent Toomey as Fala had on Thomas Dewey.

69. It could have been done in better taste
Like I said, implied is better -

Not a close up shot of the bag with the poo in it flung "in my face" ... it made me feel physically sick - and no, I don't think I'm the only one who was disgusted by that.

He could have gotten the connection, appealed to the same people who LIKE the ad, and NOT offended/grossed out/sickened a percentage - albeit probably small - of those who saw it.

But as I told the OP, I'll be the first to castigate myself in a crow-eating thread if Sestak wins.

79. Politics 101: Believe it or not, it's still to early. The game can change in a day,
two days, over a weekend.

Instead of the defeatist attitude, why not help us with GOTV.

I live in MD. But I'm willing to drive to Philly to GOTV for Sestak and/or phone bank.

Do something! You say you want Sestak to win. Work for him to win! Donate $5. Phone bank. Get out and canvass. Do something!!

81. I can see what he is trying to do
Sure, it's funny...But I'd be afraid of associating my name and candidacy with dog doo, even if the attempt is to associate the opponent with it!

I'm sorry to burst baloons, but this has backfire written all over it! I can imagine the slams now: "Sestak's ad is full of crap! Literally!"

I might be wrong, but I believe it's just NOT helpful here! Maybe for the DU audience, but not far beyond us! All we can hope for is Toomey to lower himself in his ads, as opposed to "classing it up" and making Sestak look petty and "dirty"!

87. Cute ad
I won't say it "locked" the Quaker State for Sestak, but it hits on a lot of critical points. And yes, lots of folks love puppies.
