When Do Average People With Average Incomes Represent US
Edited on Sat Oct-16-10 12:27 AM by rsmith6621
Why is it in the USA we seem to only get millionaires to run for political office outside of our local community. Do millionaires in either party really relate to the problems that affect us.Why is it that millionaires can only play this game

Suzan DelBene gave her campaign another $250,000 this quarter in her race to unseat U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert in the 8th District, according to quarterly finance reports filed Friday.

DelBene, a Democrat, now has infused her campaign with $934,000 of her own money, although $350,000 of it is considered a loan.

The donation gave her campaign a fundraising edge this quarter, with $610,427 raised compared with Reichert's $446,903, according to the reports filed with the U.S. Federal Election Commission. The financial quarter ended Sept. 30.

But Reichert has a significant advantage with his cash on hand, reporting $1.3 million available to him for the final push to Election Day, compared with DelBene's $268,525.

2. Wait, you mean you don't have a few mil to toss into a campaign for public office on a whim?
Well, excuse me, I'm not sure the rest of us normal average billionaires should be associating with you...

5. That sounds a lot like Tea Baggery to me...and what got GWB "elected."
I don't want my President or Congressional Rep to be the dude down the street I "can have a beer with." They have a country to run...they should be smart. If you're smart enough to make it through the process, it means you had money behind you. Period. Advertising, lawn signs, t-shirts, bumper stickers, buttons, all of it costs money. You can be stupid and have money and win primaries, but do you really want these people running the government?

The local Joe you can "have a beer with" is also just as likely to pull some homeowners insurance scam or rip off the mini market just because they forgot to charge him. What do you think he'd do when he gets to Washington and has lobbyists dumping wheelbarrows of money at his feet? Why do people think "average Joes" will be better at not succumbing to temptation than "smart Joes?"

If your point is that you want STUPID legislators because it would be easier to catch them being crooked, then maybe I could accept your premise. But I don't think that was what you were saying. Is it?
