Joke Line is Making Sense

I guess Joe Klein agrees with me that the single most harmful thing a politician has done to our country since the invasion of Iraq was John McCain's decision to put Sarah Palin on the ticket. The Stupid has metastasized, and we're in for a world of hurt. We could do okay by replacing our 100 senators with 100 well-educated civilly-minded people off the street. But that's not what the Republican Party is offering. They're offering a slate of kooks, cranks, and crooks. Some are exceedingly stupid. Some are ridiculously ideological. Some are petty criminals. Some are all three. We aren't just celebrating ignorance. We're celebrating aggressive stupidity and a climate of lawlessness.

4. The Republican leadership (who actually benefit from Republican policies)...
...isn't stupid. But they depend on the Stupid to vote for them
against the self-interest of the Stupid.

Are the candidates stupid? Not at the highest levels; Palin is
"crazy like a fox" and has personally profited tremendously
from being the Anointed One.

No she's not. The people who RUN HER and MAKE HER are. She's just a dumb but attractive actress. Nothing she says makes sense. It's all bumper stickers and platitudes WRITTEN FOR HER that she just memorizes. She's a cardboard cut out, a puppet... Like Reagan and Bush. She the front that her handlers think people will vote for, because, like Cheney, NO ONE would vote for them. But they will run things behind the scenes, like they do now.

2. The Republicans have been encouraging stupidity since, well, forever.
The Stupid are the willing fools who keep ensuring that
Republicans get elected.

That's why Republicans oppose education for all, own the
media and feed us their constant pablum of lies and half-
truths, and generally try to ensure that we can't tell shit
from Shinola. Because if we could, we certainly wouldn't
be buying their shit.

5. Yesterday while cleaning my kitchen, I was ...
... listening to the news and some bullcrap about Palin came on. I had the same thought as in this OP ~~ but for Gramps putting her on the ticket, this idiot would have had the efficacy of a fart in a windstorm.

We have John McCain to thank for this bullshit.

10. Before then
Regan was an idiot. He was an ideologue and a hustler, and most importantly, a puppet who could sell a product. Gerald Ford was no intellectual heavyweight either, but his tenure was too brief to really count. The "Reagan Revolution" was the turning point on the trajectory of American politics. Jimmy Carter challenged us to grow up and be responsible national and global citizens. Reagan told Americans it was okay to be cocky and stupid, that our power would carry us through to continue to rule the world. He most successfully attacked the physical and social infrastructure gutting improvements to our roads, bridges, schools, health care system, etc... in favor of massive military bloat.

Reagan was the beginning of the "affable idiotic ideologue" candidate. I think Quayle was just a side note.

had there not been millions ready to hear his messages of self-indulgence, self-righteousness, and self-aggrandizement.

20. That is true.
Given the choice to act like mature, socially responsible citizens and the crap Reagan was pushing, the choice was pretty obvious. Sad, because a little sacrifice then would have allowed for more prosperity for more people.
