Look, Drug Cartels are Capitalists.
They have a very profitable illegal product they need to get it to market while competing with other cartels and resisting attempts by anti-capitalistic police forces to stop the sale and distribution of their product.

Islamic terrorists are fanatical religious zealots that want to bring the world of God and stop imperialist societies in the West from controlling the lands that God gave them.

Terrorists, to fund the work of God, will work together with drug cartels on a limited basis. Cartels, to make a profit and get supplies of raw materials, will work with terrorists. But neither really wants to take over the United States in any conventional sense. Sure, Islamic terrorists would like to see an Islamic Republic come to power so we can all be as enlightened as they and worship Allah as the think God intends. Drug Cartels want to reduce the central power of the state in order to ease the flow of their product to customers desperate for their products and services.

Neither group plays well with others, and they have such opposed world views that they could not work together in a long term project to conquer and control the U.S.

The Mexican Drug Cartels should be considered terroristic organizations and we should use our military to deal with them. The cartels outgun our Border Patrol and Police departments easily.

We need to stop the so called "War on Drugs" and come up with a better plan to deal with the drugs coming across that border.
