Democrats got a friend in Massachusetts

(John Tlumacki/Globe Staff)

___ James Taylor warmed up the crowd today at the downtown Boston rally in which President Barack Obama rallied the faithful to help re-elect Democratic Governor Deval Patrick.

Taylor sat on a tall, barstool-like seat with a back, with an acoustic guitar on the thigh of his tan pants and told the crowd, "It’s a great thing to live in Massachusetts. It’s a wonderful state."

In a blue blazer and tan brimmed hat, the famously mellow singer talked about keeping together the team of Deval Patrick and Lieutenant Governor Tim Murray and how the recession was "caused by malfeasance and a lack of leadership."

Taylor urged the crowd to take "responsibility for our own government" and channel the energy from the rally.

"Talk to people about this election," Taylor says. "Get involved in any way that you can in order to keep this good government."

1. That must have been great fun; I grew up with James Taylor!
So nice to know he's 'one of us'.

6. Sweet indeed. I remember riding that stretch of Mass Pike...
... "from Stockbridge to Boston" in 72-73, thinking of and/or listening to that immortal lyric.

When James , that immortal lyric and the ENTIRE world was so much younger than today.
