Are you willing to defend Democratic Party principles against Republican principles..?

Or do you think they are equal and some principles of the Republican Party are superior to the Democratic Party?

Or perhaps you think they are pretty much the same?

Are you willing to debate what your Party stands for as opposed to the Republican Party?

Or perhaps you think there are times we should compromise these principles, such as when we are running in conservative districts and states, because they are not strong enough to appeal to some folks, like conservative principles would?

How far are you willing to go to defend Democratic Party principles?

And do you not think this Democratic Party stands for those principles?

7. I'm old enough that my family was union - and we always voted democrat.

I was born in the 60's - when people were still under the illusion there was a middle class. And at that time there really were factory jobs in this country, and average high school graduates could have a job that would provide for their families. It wasn't fancy, but my parents always owned a home and two relatively new cars. People didn't worry about "downsizing" constantly - that really didn't hit until the 80's.

Now I look at this party and wonder what FDR would think of it.

Everyone knows you're not supposed to do <blank>. It's right there in the student handbook. But some people enforce it and others don't. So when the parent gets upset because you kicked Johnny out of class for doing <blank>, and tells you "Mr. Smith doesn't kick kids out for that! What's the matter with YOU?" - it's really easy to say, "Screw it - I don't need this shit." Now, nobody kicks kids out for <blank> - but <blank> is still in the handbook.

So is it a rule or not?

We have platform planks, but it doesn't seem to matter to anyone at all. ANYONE can run as a Dem and garner support, no matter WHAT they espouse. In fact, we have people who AREN'T Dems actually being supported OVER Dems right here on this site!

So - do we have principles or not? We have them on paper, and I like them for the most part - but I believe they're all a bunch of bullshit because no one pays the slightest bit of attention to them.

That said, I believe that much of this current Democratic Party does not live up to it's espoused principles. And in the long view, we need to destroy the DLC and kick every blue dog back to their doghouses but as usual, we've ignored the problem until the last minute so we get stuck with all the crap because the Republicans really do follow their values and their values suck.

Principles are enduring. Such as equality, fairness, and compassion. Programs should reflect those principles.
