Oregon Trooper Tickets 82-year-old Going 110 mph

GRESHAM, Ore. (AP) -- Oregon State Police gave an 82-year-old woman a ticket for driving 28 miles per hour over her age and twice the posted speed limit of 55 mph.

KVAL-TV reported a trooper spotted Marcia Brandon's car going 110 mph Thursday on Highway 26 west of Gresham.

She said she was on her way to an appointment and wasn't aware she was going that fast.

Brandon was given a ticket for $1,103.

2. price goes up with speed. A little over the limit would have been much smaller ticket
Some places / some cops would have arrested her for reckless driving

3. She may have been in a construction zone.
They're working on that highway a lot, largely because there have some horrific accidents out there. Most people know the police are watching that road like hawks. It's amazing she could get enough room to get up to that speed, as even the speeders on that stretch of road are smart enough to keep it within five or so miles of the posted speed limit these days.

26. ... as it should!
If she "can't tell" when she's traveling at 110 mph, it really isn't safe to let her drive.

14. It's an old joke
Cop pulls over an old Buick being driven 25 miles per hour on a busy highway. The driver, an elderly woman, says "What's the problem officer? I know I wasn't speeding."

"Ma'am," the officer says, "the speed limit here is 55 miles per hour. You were doing 25 and blocking traffic."

"But that sign says 25! See, right that in front of us!"

The officer looks down the highway, then looks back at the lady and says "Ma'am, that's the highway number sign! You're on Highway 25!"

The cop looks over at the front-seat passenger, also an elderly woman, and see that she's fanning herself and sweating profusely. The officer looks back at the driver and says "Ma'am, is your friend okay? She seems a bit flushed."

The driver looks embarrassed, and says "Well, officer, you see... we just got off of Highway 130."

:D

20. There's a place on I-5
Where a speed limit sign and a sign telling you how many miles to different cities are right next to each other.

Speed limit: 70

Distance to Redding: 73

It's a misdemeanor and you can go to jail for it.

19. My 92 year old neighbor
talked a state patrolman out of giving her a ticket - he said she entered the intersection on a yellow and it was red before she cleared. She argued with him and he gave up. I know her - I would too.

Anyone incapable of telling the difference between 110 and 55 is a danger to every single person near a road. How long before someone innocent dies?
