They want to take away my right to vote, Obamacare, and more

I work for the City of Omaha. And now they want to take away my vote.

http://www.thefreeenterprisenation.org/initiatives/government-coerced-unionization.aspx?ctt=forced_unionization&gclid=CNjD9pne2aQCFYxU2godL0jAMQ

The private sector must unite to oppose unfair union activism by elected officials and by public sector officials. We must make two big changes:

1.) The President has signed Executive Orders that can require businesses that want to contract with the federal government to unionize. And his appointed Secretary of Labor (a former executive with the Service Employees International Union-SEIU) has written rules to make it standard practice. There is no way that our government should be allowed to require any business to be unionized in order to get government contracts that are paid for with taxpayer money!

2.) There is NO WAY that the public sector employees, who are paid with taxpayer dollars, should be allowed to take the tax dollars we pay them and give it as dues to a union who then provides political contributions to elected officials who will agree to give them even more taxpayer dollars. It is a clear conflict of interest and must be stopped.

2. that is scary. trying to take a person's vote away is a big deal.
the people who are running for election can vote. the people paid by taxpayer money get to vote. they get to vote on things that affect us everyday. and they get to vote in the election... they can vote for themselves. you can bitch about a lot of things.... but don't ever try to take someone's right to vote. public employees are just like everyone else, they just work for the state or federal government. this is ridiculous. why don't we say that only homeowners can vote too while we're at it. or those who pay taxes. this is bullshit.

It is in their info on one of the web pages. They are not the only group pushing this idea. What group would be next to loose it's vote for some reason?

7. Yes. There are several groups advocating this.
If you're paid with tax dollars you supposedly benefit from electing politicians who vote to pay you. This should make you ineligible to vote. Or so they say.

Since the #1 employer in the country is the government, if this actually became law, quite a few voters would be taken off the rolls.

15. Barack Obama doesn't want Public employees to vote?
Edited on Mon Oct-18-10 01:14 AM by dkf
This sounds more like a tea bagger position anyway and I haven't heard them on education at all beyond local control. Heck if they get what they want and get rid of the federal DOE it might serve anti charter anti testing purposes perfectly.

helped write the legislation.

We have been trying to tell DU for months now that Obama is siding with some evil people on education issues. This is just one more example.

25. That would mean that the armed forces would not be allowed to vote
Somehow, I don't think this will fly. What if they extended it to not allowing veterans who collect a pension or use the VA to vote?

That is one of the nuttier ideas I have ever heard. It's the mirror image of the concept in Heinlein's Starship Troopers that only people who have done federal service should be allowed to vote. I find neither idea acceptable.

27. It is pretty crazy
But then so is removing evolution from Science curriculum. And claiming birth control pills cause abortions. And questioning the birthplace of the president. Or calling him a Muslim.

These are crazy ass people. But then, I'm sure you know that.

And what he called the Crazy Times which lead to the rise of Nehemiah Scudder and a theocracy in the United States.

Jon Stewart is right - they want limited government limited to what they want it to do.

26. He's just quoting from someone else
It might have been clearer if he had put the quoted part in a box like this:

Back off. Put your anti-union stuff up somewhere else.

But it was just a quote to illustrate how crazy some of the ideas out there this year are.
