Pothead behind fireball blast-

It's true, potheads are dangerous.

EDMONTON — A failed piece of electrical equipment caused an explosion and fireball at an Epcor substation just north of downtown Edmonton on Saturday evening, according to a company spokesman.

"Right now our hypothesis is it's a pothead that sits above some underground equipment," Epcor spokesman Scott Lundy said. "That's what failed and then exploded."

A pothead is a type of insulator with a bell or pot-like shape, which is used to connect underground electric cables to overhead lines, Lundy said.

No one was injured in the incident, which happened at a substation near 106th Avenue and 104th Street, but fluid from an insulator was dispersed in the explosion, Lundy said.
