Alright, This Media Bias Is Getting REALLY FUCKING BAD (AP: Dems Up 5 Pts In Generic Ballot)
Edited on Mon Oct-18-10 02:57 PM by Beetwasher
Yeah, the AP has been consistently bad, but I think the Corp. Media is really going into overdrive here to push the narrative of doom and gloom for Dems. The latest case in point:

Wait a Second

The AP ran a poll story yesterday painting a pretty dark picture for the Democrats based on big defections among Obama voters. A number of readers noted that the piece seemed a little misleading since the poll actually showed the roughly the same amount of Obama voters were defecting from Dems as McCain voters were bailing on Republicans (obviously the absolute number of Obama voters was greater -- but then again no one is expecting the Dems to kick the GOP's butts in two weeks.)

But now they've released the Congressional Generic ballot number. And it actually has the Dems up by 5 points.

Now, that number is way off the average of other recent congressional generics. And it was taken more than ten days ago. So I don't think there's much to read into this one particular poll. But what the AP drew out of it seems pretty odd in its proper context.

1. It really is blatantly disgusting.
They don't even try to hide it anymore. At all.

2. I think the Media Bias is irritating citizens and they will vote Dem
just to "fix the Media". The Media have lost the
trust of American People a long time ago. The Media
have given the impression that they control elections
so this makes people mad when they are so one-sided.

They were not this heavy handed when Obama was running.
Individuals showed their interest in Obama but now
this beating up. They did not beat up on the Republicans
the way they have beat up on Democrats.

They never spent time on all the job losses during Bush
and Republicans. Ohio had lost most of their jobs before
Obama was innaugerated. This is how they have lost credibility.

3. Polls, schmolls
The only poll that matters is the election itself.

4. Ordinarily a 15 point swing would be newsworthy
Wasn't it just a few weeks ago that the media were hyperventilating themselves because of some outlier poll that had the Republicans up by 10 points? Dems up by 5 in a very short time thereafter? Ooh listen: Crickets! If I didn't know better, I'd say the famously objective media seem to be preoccupied with horse race politics to the exclusion of basic factual reporting.

But that can't be true.

8. I vaguely want to say that I've seen a LOT more of these "generic ballot" polls lately where the
Dems have been either tied or slightly ahead (only really lagging at all when you figure for "likely" rather than "registered" voters). Then again, all of these polls start to run together after a while...

10. Sure but....
most people don't vote for a generic Democrat. They vote for a specific person.

12. It has us up by five among all adults. Not "all adults" vote.
Edited on Mon Oct-18-10 06:06 PM by FBaggins
Not even half of them. And the proportion that DO vote don't resemble the ones who don't.

Now, that number is way off the average of other recent congressional generics

No it isn't. It's off by maybe 2-3 points from what other polls are showing if you adjust backwards to "adults".

It's also a partially an online poll... partially a mail-in poll. You really can't compare it to mainstream polling.

about the findings of the poll. This has nothing to do with comparing it to other polls.

"But what the AP drew out of it seems pretty odd in its proper context."

14. What they reported is not called into question by the generic results
the OP implies that it is... and that's incorrect. A five-point advantage among all adults is pretty consistent with the other polling.

There are other reasons to question the results of the poll (including some that would make it worse), but this isn't one of them.

15. It's Absolutely Correct, The AP Report Spun The Poll As ONLY Bad For Dems
Edited on Tue Oct-19-10 01:27 PM by Beetwasher
When if fact the Repub numbers were pretty much the same as the Dems AND Dems led the Generic ballot in the poll. Yet the AP reported these results as bad for Dems. They weren't.

You are completely missing the point. The 5 point generic advantage for Dems is only ADDITIONAL proof that the AP put a horrible spin on the results of the poll, one that doesn't reflect the reality of the data.

"The AP ran a poll story yesterday painting a pretty dark picture for the Democrats based on big defections among Obama voters. A number of readers noted that the piece seemed a little misleading since the poll actually showed the roughly the same amount of Obama voters were defecting from Dems as McCain voters were bailing on Republicans..."

Take it up with Josh Marshall if you have a problem with him drawing the conclusion that the AP's spin is problematic. I happen to agree with him.

"But what the AP drew out of it seems pretty odd in its proper context."

It seems odd to lot's of people, but not Frodo!!

16. There was a Bloomberg poll......
....showing that voters generically are supporting Republicans even while they agree with the Democratic position on most issues, including ending the Bush tax cuts for those with incomes over 250,000 and not cutting crucial health and education services.

The problem here is, the voters are FUCKING MORONS!!!
