'I'm too rich to go to jail'
Suspect's evidence for this, according to police: 'My dad paid cash for my Toyota Corolla'

ESTERO, Fla. — A woman is under arrest after getting in a fight in a taxicab at Stoneybrook Country Club early Sunday morning.

The sheriff's office report says deputies arrived on the scene to find Jessica Nicole Hincapie and Anna Lemoine fighting.

..According to the report, Hincapie was asked repeatedly to stop but refused.

When deputies placed Hincapie under arrest, she allegedly said, "You are in trouble because I am a New Yorker and my brother is CSI" and "My dad paid cash for my Toyota Corolla and I am too rich to go to jail."

6. I'd guess it was alcohol talking, but...
...there's no mention of alcohol use in the story. Hard to believe this is a sober person.

8. As strange as it may seem
I have seen the argument advanced by allegedly reasonable people that jailing the wealthy isn't a good form of punishment. The "reasoning" is that jail cells should be used for housing criminals who can't afford to buy their way out of it, and the wealthy should be fined (or taxed) for their misdeeds and allowed to walk free. The money could be used to fund essential public services, and jail cells would then be available for the real bad guys (who are curiously of the same low economic stratum). I'm a little fuzzy on the details, but it probably has something to do with the indispensable contribution the wealthy make to our society as the reason for not depriving the rest of us of their company.

It's pretty hare-brained, but I have no doubt it's quite a popular subject for wealthy wrong-doers, and Ms. Hincapie appears to have absorbed the lesson very well.

12. How about both. Jail AND a fine proportional to the person's wealth; That's the way
it's done in Scandinavia.

where you are allowed to buy your way out of jail. The poor players either have to get lucky (by rolling doubles) or have a Get Out of Jail Free card handy to get out early, or serve out their full term.

19. Or, if you don't roll your way to freedom
You serve the full term and pay your way out anyway.

9. A Toyota Corolla 'eh?
Well take heart Missy, the Toyota execs will likely be too rich to go to jail too when your car runs away on you while you're still sitting in it.

16. Hey why not! All the mega criminals are getting away with bloody murder!
Why shouldn't she feel that way after watching and growing up in the most self absorbed culture on the planet? I'm sure she doesn't give a fucking shit about the troops left in Iraq or those getting shot at in Afghanistan. She probably will have charges brought up on someone for harassment, if her daddy warbucks has the push.

17. Both funny and sad that she thinks she's rich.
This is what watching too much reality tv will do to you.
