Meghan McCain calls Christine O'Donnell 'A Nut Job'
Source: Telegraph (UK)

Miss McCain, a Republican who is making a name for herself as an outspoken pundit, said what many party colleagues have been afraid of uttering publicly.

She is moderate who supports gay marriage, has criticised her father's vice-presidential running mate Sarah Palin and taken issue with the anti-tax Tea Party for its "innate racism".

Miss O'Donnell, 41, is a Tea Party darling.

She is trailing badly in the Delaware Senate race, is best known for having spoken out against masturbation and admitting she had "dabbled" in witchcraft.

Her first television campaign advertisement began with her saying: "I am not a witch."

"Well, I speak as a 26-year-old woman and my problem is that, no matter what, Christine O'Donnell is making a mockery of running for public office," Miss McCain said on ABC News. "She has no real history, no real success in any kind of business.

"It scares for me for a lot of reasons. In my group of friends, it turns people off because she's seen as a nut job."

Miss O'Donnell, who is running for Senate in Delaware for the third time, scored a shock primary victory over Representative Mike Castle, a moderate Republican who was widely viewed as a certain victory over the Democratic candidate Chris Coons.

But despite astounding fund-raising figures, Miss O'Donnell is badly trailing Mr Coons, a blow to Republican chances of capturing the 10 seats they need to win back control of the Senate.

Miss McCain recently wrote a book called "Dirty Sexy Politics" and revealed that when Mrs Palin joined her father's presidential ticket in 2008 she brought "stress, drama, complications, panic and loads of uncertainty" to the campaign.

5. meg just needs a little liberal
influence in her life and I think she'd come around all the way. Maybe a Dem boyfriend would do the trick? Or a Dem best friend? Someone to slowly push her towards the light she's already seemingly willing to acknowledge.

She isn't a genius, but I give her credit for at least seemingly trying to be open-minded and willing to question a little bit which is a step up from many of today's republicans.

8. And her dad gave the lunatic fringe the key to the barn..
by nominating Palin.

Meghan's POV is marginalized by the fact that she's still unwilling to put any of the blame for what's happened to the party in the last 2 years squarely on her dad's selection of Palin for the VP slot.

10. not so much
it's her dad, and being a good daughter means you don't go out of your way to call out your own father.

Her obligation to him is a little stronger than her obligation to call him out over his selection of a running mate.

11. I don't follow her on Twitter or anything
But it seems she's a Democrat that switched to a Republican to make her Daddy happy. I think when John passes on, she will switch back to being the Democrat she is. Maybe she'll run for office as a Dem. Daddy would roll over in each of his 7 graves...wait, that was 7 houses he owns, sorry. One grave I presume.

12. Her job appears to be to give the young an excuse to vote Republican anyways
She "bashes" the Republican party then finds excuses to be Republican. I think the overall idea of people like her is to attract young voters to the party, but not to fundamentally change the republican party. It's sort of to laugh at these people, but ultimately vote for them anyways. Not to laugh at them and demand better Republican candidates.
