Bow Down to Aqua Buddha, Pt.2
http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/2010/10/bow_down_to_aqua_buddha_pt2.php

Jack Conway went on Hardball this afternoon to keep up his Aqua Buddha fusillade and defend his attacks on Rand Paul. Watch the video here.

(snip)

I would say this though; and I think it's a point Matthews, who really went after Conway, missed. The ad hits Paul on a key and very valid point: he's a fraud. A through and through fraud. He's a longtime devotee of Ayn Rand and he's passing himself off to Kentucky voters as a bible-believing "pro-life Christian." As Jon Chait notes in a post otherwise lambasting the ad, nothing in Paul's lengthy public record suggests that's true.

Late Update: Extra bonus Aqua Buddha moment: Factcheck.org gives Aqua Buddha ad a thumbs up.

5. I haven't read the account of the "kidnapping" yet, so I can't comment
on the woman's report, but I went to Baylor, and basically the NoZe were known as a bunch of harmless pranksters. Those of us who were not holy rollers loved all their irreverent acts. We cheered when they crashed parades or replaced official school newspapers with their own. I never heard anything threatening that they did.

I'm not saying they could not have. I don't know that for sure. But belonging to the NoZe is not something I would criticize someone for. Hell, it may be the only COOL thing about him. But yeah, since he is pandering to the religious right, even if he did something "cool" in college, that make him a hypocrite.

6. From what I got out of it she just thought they were weird... but didn't feel threatened by them.

7. If she thought they were weird, she was probably a debutante or a God Warrior. LOL
Most other people were DYING to know who were NoZe Brothers. They pulled a lot of good stunts and wrote good satire.

The strangest episode of Paul's time at Baylor occurred one afternoon in 1983 (although memories about all of these events are understandably a bit hazy, so the date might be slightly off), when he and a NoZe brother paid a visit to a female student who was one of Paul's teammates on the Baylor swim team. According to this woman, who requested anonymity because of her current job as a clinical psychologist, "He and Randy came to my house, they knocked on my door, and then they blindfolded me, tied me up, and put me in their car. They took me to their apartment and tried to force me to take bong hits. They'd been smoking pot." After the woman refused to smoke with them, Paul and his friend put her back in their car and drove to the countryside outside of Waco, where they stopped near a creek. "They told me their god was 'Aqua Buddha' and that I needed to bow down and worship him," the woman recalls. "They blindfolded me and made me bow down to 'Aqua Buddha' in the creek. I had to say, 'I worship you Aqua Buddha, I worship you.' At Baylor, there were people actively going around trying to save you and we had to go to chapel, so worshiping idols was a big no-no."

Nearly 30 years later, the woman is still trying to make sense of that afternoon. "They never hurt me, they never did anything wrong, but the whole thing was kind of sadistic. They were messing with my mind. It was some kind of joke." She hadn't actually realized that Paul wound up leaving Baylor early. "I just know I never saw Randy after that—for understandable reasons, I think."

9. "so worshipping idols was a big no-no." duh
OK, so if she REALLY thought they were worshiping and idol and not just being smart asses, then she was a pretty hardcore god squadder.

No, no one should ever try to force someone to do something they do not want to do. And they should have chosen someone they thought was the type to go along with such an activity. But I still say it was probably relatively harmless.

I can see myself bowing down to Aqua Buddha and cracking up laughing at the same time!
