and noticed both ABC & CBS both did stories on it - even mentioned that the reason was raise in the retirement age.
Then Diane Sawyer said the retirment age in the U.S. is 64. I haven't figured out how she came up with that. I know someone my age can collect Social Security at 62 - but as I'd like to keep the rent paid and eat I'll be working at least until I get to my "full benefit" retirement age of 66 and if I work until I'm 70 I'll collect over $500 more/month than I would at 66 (unless the Catfood Commission changes that). I figure I can use the extra money to pay for my medigap and part D insurance. (So let's remember that not only do the French get to retire earlier, they don't have to worry about medical care when they do.)
