Really. If they want people to donate money to them, using Rahm Emmanuel (or his name) is not the way to get them to do it. Zoiks. The man despises me and the feeling is mutual.

"As a former DCCC Chairman, I know what kind of tough decisions they are being faced with and with just 14 days until Election Day, decisions are being made almost hourly about where to invest our resources. Every single dollar makes a difference.

This year, we have to help them meet a dangerous new challenge as outside shadowy GOP front groups continue to pour money into deceitful and misleading ads.

We can't have a single regret on the day after Election Day. It's time to go all in.

Rahm Emanuel"

Bad strategy at a bad time.

1. Ha!
Like I needed ANOTHER reason not to give DCCC any money. In this modern internet age, I can give directly to individual candidates. Quite honestly, they may have to change their model a bit to do what some other organizations like ACT BLUE do, and act primarily as a conduit for candidates for contributions.

What little money I can afford to give goes directly to candidates of MY choosing.

3. While this may be true for some, it may be just the opposite
for others. I suspect that many who don't like this wouldn't donate to the DCCC anyhow. Others may not have the same low opinion of Rahm Emanuel. Not everyone sees him as a bogeyman, and those that do aren't likely to donate to that organization in the first place. That's my guess, anyhow.

29. Maybe people are not so easily influenced as you seem to think
and a very large number of people who knew this man's history were opposed to his appointment from the beginning and ended up having their worst fears realized. He is responsible for his own behavior, I am responsible for mine, and everyone else is capable, imho, of making their own decisions without being influenced by anything but the facts.

Stop trying to excuse their failed tactics of attacking the very people who elected them. He should have been fired for incompetence.

Even Nancy Pelosi and others from the Democratic Congressional leadership had to go to the WH and ask them, twice, to stop attacking Democrats as it was affecting their chances of winning in November.

I despise these refusals to take responsibility for failed policies and trying to pass them on to someone else. It epitomizes WHY people have lost faith in them in case you didn't know.

I stopped donating to the Party as soon as he was named COS and now only help real Progressives directly. The only person who influenced that decision was Rahm Emanuel.

why were apology letters written by him to various groups other than progressives, for the retarded remark?

Okay, I eagerly await whateve lie or spin you want to cover up the real beef you have with FDL. And my guess is this charge made against Emanuel:

Odd Couple Of Norquist, Hamsher Call For Investigation, Rahm's Resignation
Dec 23 2009, 4:12 PM ET

"Grover Norquist and Jane Hamsher are not often on the same side of anything, beyond both usually being in the Western Hemisphere. Norquist is a leading voice of fiscal conservatism as head of the anti-tax group Americans for Tax Reform; Hamsher is a leading voice of the digital left, whose blog Firedoglake has taken on influence in speaking up for progressives during the health care debate and in pressuring lawmakers through its activist arm, FDL Action.

But the two have united to level serious allegations at White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and demand his resignation.

Hamsher and Norquist coauthored a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder today calling for a Department of Justice investigation of Emanuel for his role on the board of Freddie Mac, alleging that the White House, since Emanuel arrived there, has blocked an investigation of the government-sponsored mortgage lender.

Emanuel served on Freddie Mac's board in 2000-2001, when he quit to run (successfully) for Congress. He has also recently sparked the ire of liberals like Hamsher after it was reported that he pushed for Senate Democratic leaders to compromise with Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) on health care reform and jettison an expansion of Medicare from the Senate bill..."

Or if it was even aimed at them.

He didn't deny saying it, but that's not the point. The point is about at whom it was directed; it was not directed at "liberals" like people like to pretend so they can guilt the administration into giving them something. It was aimed at a counterproductive tactic and a threat intentionally directed at him to antagonize him. The FDL spin was to widen the circle of people at which it was directed.

13. The people who willingly believe the Fire Dog Lake spin about Rahm Emanuel
are likely to find something else to get offended about in order to demand things from the administration because that's their MO: it's a way to try to get things without doing any more work other than complaining on the Internet, at little or no risk to their credibility or reputation because they are virtually anonymous on the Internet.

Rahm Emanuel "Retarded" Comment Puts Offensiveness in Spotlight
Advocates for Disabled Equate 'Retarded' With Hate Speech

White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel's verbal indiscretion -- referring to some liberal activists as "f**king retarded" -- has shined a spotlight on just how pervasive the R-word is in American conversation, and how offensive it can be for millions of Americans.

Emanuel apologized to members of the disabilities rights community this afternoon at the White House for comments he made during a closed-door meeting last August but not reported until last week by The Wall Street Journal.
The incident reignited a nationwide debate and even spurred a call for his resignation by former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, whose son has Down's syndrome.

Advocates for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities -- the preferred terms to describe individuals with these impairments -- said they aren't surprised by Emanuel's use of the epithet since the word is regularly used in a negative way to refer to things that are "different" or "not the norm."

Obama chief of staff’s 'retarded' insult brings fallout, Palin criticism
Tue Feb 2, 6:29 pm ET

Dating back to the time he worked in the Clinton administration, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel has developed an almost notorious reputation in Washington for being a brash personality with a penchant for profanity-laced diatribes. Conversely, his intense nature, in addition to his sharp mind, are what many attribute to his success and effectiveness as a Washington power player. But a recently revealed remark he made in a closed-door meeting attended by White House aides and leaders of liberal special-interest groups has irked many, prompting him to issue an apology.

Last week, the Wall Street Journal reported that Emanuel, exasperated upon learning that liberal special-interest groups were planning to run ads against conservative Democrats not supportive of health care reform, blasted the plan as "f------ retarded" over the summer. Naturally, some outrage ensued after Emanuel's words came to light, with former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin taking to her Facebook page to call on President Obama to fire him for what she saw as the equivalent of a racial slur.

Palin, whose son Trig is afflicted with Down syndrome, said she was informed of Emanuel's comment by a fellow parent of a special-needs child and pleaded with the president to "show decency" to the political process by "eliminating" the Chicago native from his inner circle.

Rahm Emanuel Calls Liberals
"F---ing Retarded"
He should have said they were "f---ing intellectually disabled."
By Adrian ChenPosted Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010, at 1:24 PM ET

White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel called the CEO of the Special Olympics last week and apologized for having used the phrase "f---ing retarded" in a 2009 strategy meeting with liberal groups. In an "Explainer" column first published last summer and reprinted below, Adrian Chen looked at whether it's still OK to use the word retarded.

Eunice Kennedy Shriver, founder of the Special Olympics, died Tuesday morning at the age of 88. A number of articles made note of her work on behalf of the "mentally retarded" or in preventing "mental retardation." Is it still OK to use the word retarded?

Rahm Emanuel on defensive over "retarded" comment; met with Timothy Shriver, Special Olympics Chairman

White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel met with a delegation from the Special Olympics on Wednesday--including chair Timothy Shriver after he used the term "retarded" in a comment, a word the disability movement is trying to get people not to use.

The meeting with Shriver and four other disability activists was set up last week, Emanuel's spokesman said, after Emanuel's remark surfaced in a Wall Street Journal report. Though Emanuel apologized to Shriver--son of the late Eunice Kennedy Shriver, the founder of the Special Olympics--I was told they both decided to do a follow up meeting this week.
Shriver's letter to Emanuel--known for his salty language--was dated Jan. 26.

I read with dismay today, the Wall Street Journal's article describing the tension with policy-making circles that is hardly uncommon in Washington. What troubled me was not the diversity of the opinions surrounding your role - I can only imagine how difficult it must be to serve the country in this time. But what did trouble me was the quote attributed to you describing a plan to air certain ads as "f-----g retarded."

Chief of Staff Draws Fire From Left as Obama Falters
• POLITICS
• JANUARY 26, 2010

“…The friction was laid bare in August when Mr. Emanuel showed up at a weekly strategy session featuring liberal groups and White House aides. Some attendees said they were planning to air ads attacking conservative Democrats who were balking at Mr. Obama's health-care overhaul.

"F—ing retarded," Mr. Emanuel scolded the group, according to several participants. He warned them not to alienate lawmakers whose votes would be needed on health care and other top legislative items.

The antipathy reflects deep dissatisfaction on the Democratic left with Mr. Obama's first year in office, and represents a fracturing of the relationship between the president and the political base that mobilized to elect him. A little more than one year ago, Mr. Obama's victory led some to predict an era of Democratic dominance.

The anger on the left shows that Mr. Obama is caught in an internal battle over both the course of his administration and the Democratic Party.

It is fairly obvious to all that can read what really happened, and your feeble attempts to turn this into a roast of FDL yet again is just plain stupid. Firstly, it wasn’t just FDL spin, was it? Secondly, why support someone who is clearly a negative force for Obama?

Why still lie and prevaricate and parse and spin? There is that well-known instruction to juries that if a witness has been found to be misrepresenting the truth, you, the jury, have the right to disbelieve everything else that witness has said.
If I were you, I’d get back in that Clown Car and motor on down the road to Chi-town. Maybe they will believe you. I think your boy Emanuel may need some help fighting the charges in Chicago about his days in Fannie May/Freddie Mac, once they are brought.

You do nothing but help Republicans win by promoting the worst of the administration’s staffing choices.

Goodbye and good luck

I'm not parsing any more than is needed to correct the gross misrepresentation that is the center of the issue in this thread. It was FDL and people who think they could whine the administration out of a favor by acting offended that misrepresented what Rahm said, as if he directed it at all liberals and not the stupid plan hatched by people who came there to threaten and antagonize him by running attack ads against Democrats.

And yes, I think it's fairly obvious what really happened. I think the "offended" even know that I'm right.

Much of the last half of your post is ad hominem - if you want to talk about witness credibility, how much does someone have when they start engaging in personal attacks?
