A sample of today's Southern Republicans.....

I live in Georgia where former Democratic Governor Roy Barnes is running against former Republican Congressman (and Birther) Nathan Deal for the governorship. Yesterday, I received this lovely flyer from Deal's campaign. Here's the main line...

"ROY BARNES SAYS THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT HAS A CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO FORCE GEORGIANS TO BUY OBAMACARE INSURANCE." (Oh no, where can I run and hide? :scared:).

"Roy Barnes gave thousands to Obama and Harry Reid...WHO DO YOU THINK HE WILL STAND WITH?" (Sounds like he'll stand with me! :fistbump:)

ObamaCare Insurance??? What's that, some new insurance company? :eyes: And as far as the health care law, all Barnes (who is an attorney) has said is that he believes that the PPAC will be ultimately upheld in court, something that most constitutional scholars have already predicted.

Now, about Nathan "Raw" Deal....

The guy is facing personal bankruptcy because he foolishly co-signed a $2.3 MILLION LOAN for his daughter so she and his son-in-law could open a small store back in 2006. The store went under in 2009, and his daughter and son-in-law are totally broke and are unable to pay back the loan. So now, Mr. Deal is responsible for paying back the loan but--guess what--he doesn't have the money to pay it back, either!

Nathan Deal claims to be an upstanding Christian man. Apparently he never read Proverbs 17:18 which reads, “A man lacking judgment strikes hands in pledge and puts up security for his neighbor.” The Bible very clearly says to NEVER, EVER co-sign someone else's debt. While it's understandable that he wanted to help his daughter, some common sense was clearly lacking here. Were their no better alternatives?

Well, let's see....did Deal consider lending his daughter some of his own money to help her get started with her business?:think: Or could he have given his daughter some tough love instead? (Ex.--"Sweetheart, I love you but the fact is you haven't raised enough capital at this point to qualify for such a huge loan from the bank. You need to start saving everything you possibly can so the bank won't see you as a high risk. This means you will have to make some sacrifices").:hug:

Now, Nathan Deal says he will bring "sound judgment" and "common sense" to the governor's mansion and will stress the importance of "personal responsibility" to all Georgians....a concept he obviously couldn't stress to his own child. :shrug:

Here's the saddest part....the latest polls show Nathan Deal leading Roy Barnes by 11 points. Behold, the American South at its finest. :puke:

1. I hope Deal loses, but if my children asked me to cosign...

and I had the ability, I would do it.

And the bible is a piss poor place to look for advice on sound judgment. It is about as accurate as buying stocks after checking the entrails of a fatted calf.

2. That's not too smart....

...and you don't need The Bible to tell you that co-signing is unwise. When a borrower needs a co-signer, it usually means that the lender sees them as unlikely to have the ability to pay back the loan himself/herself.

3. If my children need my help they will get it...

They did not ask to be brought into the world.

And the bible is a piss poor place to look for a guide to good judgment. I don't care if you are drunk after your wife turns to a pillar of salt, banging your daughters is just wrong. I don't care if your husband died before he could get you pregnant, pretending to be a prostitute so you can seduce your father in law to get pregnant is wrong.

But family is family and parents should help their children financially and should not be judged poorly because they did so, unless they use biblical style judgment as in the paragraph above.
