5. I refuse to read our local rag. Same crap.
Not worth fifty cents.

They put editorial stuff "America is a Christian Nation" on the front page like it was news.

I sent them the Treaty of Tripoli and highlighted "As America is not in any sense a Christian nation".

I did not hear of any heads exploding.

6. Stop reading that paper. Surely there's one from the DFW area
that makes sense. I'm sorry, but why would you read such a newspaper?

7. More of the SOS, huh, Beth?
My local paper is conservative, too, though nowhere near as extreme as yours. I had lunch Saturday with its editor at our Outreach to homeless vets. His son, a Marine vet of Fallujah, was in town, so I had a chance to talk to him, too. (The son is out now, and going through a lot of the same as your son. It was good that he also had a chance to talk privately with my best friend, the PTSD counselor at the local Vet Center.)

The editor is actually a good guy--I like him. It's always interesting to talk to him, and we have no problem discussing our differing politics. He even took it pretty well when I told him I don't subscribe to his paper. :) He wants to be in closer touch through e-mail now, so perhaps I'll have a chance to further enlighten and influence him.

Interesting side note: The editor got his first reporting job, at UPI, thanks to Joe Galloway, the co-author of "We Were Soldiers Once...And Young," and former military correspondent who came out early against the Iraq War.

K&R (What else? :) )

:hi:
