I found this fascinating aboriginal Australian media station
Ok...call me wacky...but I just love stuff like this, and during the school year I encourage students to explore the many options for peeking into the cultures of other people on this planet. For a long time, I was having trouble locating something online from the interior of Australia (there is plenty of stuff from the more settled, coastal areas) and. . .well, tonight I finally scored!

This is a link to a national aboriginal media LIVE online radio link for the nation - and I find both the music and the news fascinating. I've listened for about half an hour and noticed that native languages were used on one PSA. . .I've never heard that before. . .!! The music seems to be mixed. . .anyway, I thought maybe someone might enjoy checking this out. . .

Interesting that their network news included a blurb about the U.S. debating immigration legislation. . .

1. Thank you for the link
It is interesting to be able to check out other cultures and this is part of what makes the internet a neat place to be.

2. a reference.
Here's one for you, if you don't already know about it, the internet's only full time pre-WW II country blues radio station. A great resource.

3. Thank you. . .
I bookmarked that site. . .it looks fascinating as well.

I find myself increasingly listening to a variety of online radio stations from other countries or with other formats. American "talk" radio is so overwhelmed by. . .well, the wingnut tantrum throwers that I just lost any interest in listening, and other than "All Things Considered" I increasingly seem to be getting away from NPR.

Be that as it may, I teach core courses in oral communication, and force students each semester to do one project in listening or watching media from a foreign broadcasting source. They whine at first, but usually write fascinating papers about their observations concerning music, news, formats - and they need to be exposed to other cultures. It just amazes me that we now have such access from our own homes. . .!!

I also try to instill in students that culture is not only geographical, but time-based as well...meaning that music or programming from other eras is often as different as a "foreign" culture. . .so this link you offered is a great resource for that unit.

6. I'm happy you see the value in what I've offered.
It is a rare item, at least on the net. All the best to you in broadening young minds and preventing or staving off complete yahooness.
