Could a Dem president and Dem controlled Congress get some things done in the next 4 or 8 years? |
|
I mean really get some things done? I think they could/would if we stay relentless at trying to improve America. We can't get lazy or they will get lazy too. Its human nature.
What are some of the changes you would like to see when we get there next year besides getting out of Iraq that most of us want already?
Just so you know cleaning up the corruption in Washington on both sides of the aisle is at the top of my list.

1. In this globalized world we're making, it's ironic WE are slowly losing our part in it. |
|
But one cannot expect miracles (or Rome) in a day. Things will get better.

2. After the eight years we |
|
have lived in hell - I believe that a new Dem leadership will appreciate and understand the need for transparency. I want Honesty and Leadership - NO MORE CRONYISM and above all, restoration of the America we all grew up believing in.

title of a very interesting article is "The Sack of Washington". It left me very depressed.

6. If and only if they tell the corporations to go dissolve themselves |
|
and then start making decisions entirely on what's good for the ordinary people of this country, not on what's good for the corporate bigwigs.
Otherwise, if you think of the U.S. as heading for the edge of a cliff at 60 MPH, a corporate-controlled Democratic president and Congress would be like heading for the edge of a cliff at 30 MPH. A government that freed itself of corporate influence would change directions and miss the cliff entirely.

9. Thom Hartmann said something to the effect of "the Democratic principles are based on the premise |
|
Edited on Mon May-21-07 08:34 PM by BleedingHeartPatriot
that people are basically good and a good government supports and governs to that principle...making sure the basics are covered for all, so they may pursue happiness.
The Republican principles are based on the premise that people are bad and government is a mechanism for keeping people from hurting themselves or others."
He said that during one of his shows a few weeks ago.
Not the best paraphrase, but I know onto which side I fall. MKJ

13. Dems are gonna win both houses... |
|
.. and the White House.
Then the Dems will somehow end the Iraq goatfuck, and be forced to raise taxes to pay for the damned thing. Then they'll try to rebuild whatever safety net is possible in the Global economy.
Eight years from now Limpballs and O'Lielly will be screaming about Democrat traitors who gave Iraq to the Iranians, raised taxes, and put Murika back on welfare. Gas prices ain't gonna get any lower, so the Dems will bear that curse. The crumbling infrastructure and environmental disasters that Dumbya gave us will be too expensive to rebuilt without major tax increases, so the Repubs will play on that.
I'd almost like to see the Repubs win... just so they would have to deal with the mess they made.

16. The solution, to make it truly competitive, is to |
|
make the cost of living in America match the cost of living in India, which is why India is building a middle class and we are losing ours.
And given all the complaints I hear about product and service quality, jobs WOULD come back and our middle class thrive again. After all, India won't be accepting many immigrants right now. They have their own to feed.
So why hasn't that happened; true globaliaztion? Why is the media not saying the obvious (if I can, anybody can)? Who suffers if the world were to become TRULY globalized? And is there a bigger issue everybody's not including?
