O'Donnell: Close the borders entirely

In a debate with Democrat Chris Coons on Tuesday, Delaware Republican Christine O'Donnell said she supports closing the U.S. borders entirely before any legislative action is taken to combat illegal immigration.

"On illegal immigration I think that we have to close the borders before we discuss any sort of amnesty or DREAM Act or anything," said O'Donnell, who currently trails Coons in the Delaware Senate race. Immediately afterward, O'Donnell praised the U.S. as a country that welcomed immigrants, "We are a magnet because people want to come over and pursue the American dream, but we have made it harder and harder to do exactly that."

Both Democrats and Republicans have called for increased border security, but it is rare for a candidate to say the borders should be closed completely.
