"No lily pads without resignation",
Edited on Mon May-21-07 08:30 PM by Perky
The bogus concept of leaving 40,000 troops in Iraq in what would be self contained bases or lily pads should surprise no one.

It was doubtlessly in the schema from the start. Now it is going to be seen as the "Grand Compromise" come September,

My great fear is that Democratic candidates, not wanting to alienate the middle...will sign on as well.

This must be vigorously opposed starting now.

The new meme is "No lily pads without resignation",

2. UN mandate runs out 12/07 . Unless we get permission from Iraq Gov to stay, we leave - but
Edited on Mon May-21-07 08:41 PM by papau
ww'll get permission for training size forces - which I would estimate at 12,000 to 15,000 max. General Pace must do what Bush commands - civilian control and all that.

We have training forces stationed in over 100 countries - no big deal.

I want combat ended for our guys except as observers and trainers on Iraqi led and maned missions - and only then if we think they will be safe from a bullet in the back by someone in the Iraq military.

3. No doubt, but that is not the point

It gives Bush the abilility to claim success and avoid resposibiity and evade responsibility for this abhorrent misadventure.

I personally am fine with this as an endgame. I just do not want him getting credit for it. I may however be the only way out of this mess.

4. most of the dem candidates and congress are cool with this
they are called "support troops" and will likely be closer to 70,000. And don't forget the mercs.
