Octodoc faces medical license hearing today.
Octuplet mom's doctor faces license revocation hearing

A California fertility doctor implanted a dozen embryos in Nadya Suleman, resulting in "an unsafe octuplet delivery" last year, a lawyer for the state's medical board said Monday.

Dr. Michael Kamrava, the fertility doctor who treated Suleman beginning in 1997, appeared before an administrative law judge Monday for a hearing that could lead to the loss of his medical license.

Kamrava "will say she demanded all 12 embryos and, because it was the weekend, he did not know what to do," said California Deputy Attorney General Judith Alvarado. "But he knew it was unsafe."

I am surprised this is in their "entertainment" section. While Suleman is a very disturbed woman who is stretching her 15 minutes, this doctor is quite likely unsuitable to continue in practice, if not guilty of an actual crime. This part of the whole mess is a real story.

1. State of California should sue for several million dollars
since that's what it's going to cost the state to pay that crazy woman to raise those kids. She's going to need welfare, medicare, foodstamps and a host of other entitlements to raise those kids.

Now I believe in these programs to help those who need help but for a woman with 6 kids to demand a massive multi-birth when it was clear she had no way to raise those children - that's just criminal. Octomom was clearly insane, the doctor should have realized that and said 'no'.

5. Even more than that
this doctor performed an elective medical procedure which placed the patient in severe risk and endangered the life of the mother and the babies. There was no medical benefit and no medical need.

It was nothing more then experimentation on a human being.

2. Octodoc? Was the name Doctor Octopus already taken?
Doctors seldom face any lasting charges over a single lapse of judgment. Have any other cases against him come out of the woodwork? If not, he'll just face a small fine, etc.

3. Good, this guy's judgment is seriously out of whack
and whether or not it was a weekend, the guidelines that say no more than four were firmly in place. He violated the standards of practice and risked his patient's life.

He needs a suspension, at least.

4. Good
Now he can join Andrew Wakefield in the unemployed physicians line (or 'queue' in Wakefield's case) :)
