Glenn Beck says evolution is ridiculous-hasn't 'Seen A Half-Monkey, Half-Person Yet'
Glenn Beck: Evolution Is 'Ridiculous -- I Haven't Seen A Half-Monkey, Half-Person Yet'

Have you ever seen a half-monkey, half-person? No? Well neither has Glenn Beck, which is how he knows evolution doesn't exist.

On his radio show today, Beck wondered how many people in the country believe in evolution, and said he doesn't: "I don't think we came from monkeys. I think that's ridiculous. I haven't seen a half-monkey, half-person yet."

"If I get to the other side and God's like, 'You know what, yep, you were a monkey once,' I'll be shocked, but I'll be cool with it," he said.

"They have to make you care," Beck continued. "They have to force it down your throat. When anybody has to force it -- it's a problem. You didn't have to force that the world was round. Truth is truth."

Even if it was the Div School, that's still another foul stain upon the Yale escutcheon, along with Gee Dubya Boosh '68.

85. It appears he took one course in theology. Guess why?
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=post&forum=389&topic_id=9354423&mesg_id=9355106\

Beck was admitted to a special program for non-traditional students at Yale University while he was working for a New Haven-area radio station, having received at least one of his recommendations from Senator Joe Lieberman. During this time Beck took a single theology class, dropping out around the time of his divorce.

The scary thing is, I was in the Special Students Program before transferring in the following year!! :scared:

Note: The reference to LIEberman has gone down the memory hole.

9. But see, they'd actually have to READ Origin of the Species to get that.
Just like they'd actually have to Read Adam Smith's economic works to understand that Smith was NOT an advocate of laissez faire capitalism, but encouraged strong regulation.

And they prefer not to be confused with incovenient facts.

26. It is a deliberate level of stupidity.
None of them are that stupid, with the exception of Sarah Palin. Not even the Shrub. It is an act. So they can claim intelligence is "elitist" therefore justifying cuts in schools. It is folksy nonsense to extract $$$s and votes.

Feed the dumb shits who follow them anything they want to hear, get them to believe that the reason they were crap at science at school was a "God thing" and not a "them thing". Extract money.

Don't forget that Beck got his idiot followers, most of whom are on low incomes, to donate $$s to a lobby group that wants to outsource the very jobs that they work at.

16. Generally I shy away from piling on Beck
Such things bore me and it's WAY too easy. But this is just stupid, mostly because I kind of doubt he fully believes this. I'll bet he believes some of it (often the Christian line on evolution is to accept some basic stuff, like identifiable changes in short periods of time, but not ultimate origins) but I wonder if he's dialing it up here just for extra pander points. Maybe, maybe not . . . either way he's lame.

37. While true, we are related by common ancestor, and
the creationist "half-monkey half-human" chimera is not even contemplated by evolutionary theory. It's non-existence is, if anything, an argument against creationism, not evolution.

19. You know
It is amazing how many of the right-wingnuts that try to discuss evolution immediately, as Beck does here, show they have no real understanding of what the Theory of Evolution says. As somebody here pointed out the 'we come from monkeys' is a strawman argument because the theory only states that through the fossil records and genetic similarities, among other data, it strongly appears (to close to the level of fact) that there was a 'common ancestor'. So neither humanoid or monkey but probably with some traits of both.

52. It's the anti-intellectualism
If they can't feel it, they reject it. You said exactly what I was thinking. They have no understanding of evolution other than what is in the popular culture. They do not understand natural selection, geographic isolation or integration. They have no clue about the time frame being discussed.

56. Considering
Since I'm sure many of them are in the group that believes the world is only 6000 or so years old (I guess if there is no history of it then it didn't exist) that is not surprising. We also have to remember that the center of their Christian mythology is that God created heaven and Earth (and we were lucky to apparently be the only 'humanoids' he decided to create) and therefore anything that challenges that must be rejected including in general science and specifically the theory of evolution. I have stated before on DU that (I'm no psychologists or doctor or anything like that) I believe there is a genetic propensity to the conservative/liberal split in society. The conservative mind requires a black and white world. Either their belief system is totally right or it is totally wrong and therefore they must strongly reject any idea that brings that philosophy into question. On the other hand those of the liberal persuasion almost revel in the gray areas of life. They are willing to use their or other's experience, scientific inquiry, and other sources to develop a life philosophy and are willing to acknowledge that they are wrong if the evidence is strong enough to show that fact. I believe this is built into the brain circuitry. Now this is also a nature/nuture question where we have to determine can a human being be trained by nuture to go against their basic nature. Can a person of genetic conservatism by influenced enough so that they will espouse liberal 'doctrine' even though it goes against their basic nature. I think this explains those situations where you have somebody that is an ardent liberal and then changes to be just as ardent a conservative. I again believe that their basic nature was conservative (black & white) and so by nuture the had been influenced to an absolute version of liberalism and when they reverted to their conservative nature they went back to the natural absolute. Just my take on it as I don't have any scientific or other information to back it up.

since it is an evolutionary impossibility. Of course, he has no idea that he just made an excellent anti-creationism argument, and the fact that he did couldn't be hammered into his head with truck-load of literature. He just "teaches" this stuff, he doesn't have to actually "know" it.

66. Actually, I have. It's called a bonobo.
It is genetically closer to human than any other ape, something like .5% closer than the chimpanzee. And know what? It's a different species, because, as defined in 'The Origin Of Species,' the common ancestor of humans and bonobos diverged approximately 6 million years ago.

79. "Force it down your throat" is a protest for free will, not stupidity.
Dems need to find a better way to sell evolution and other scientifically indisputable theories if they want them accepted in a living generation. GOPers have no trouble believing the bank when the bank shows up to foreclose on their house, even if the bank screwed up the paperwork. They bow to rationality when it confronts them directly. They even let things that aren't true be shoved down their throats.

Evolution doesn't confront them in their day-to-day lives, so they see no reason to agree with it. And disagreeing with it disempowers their opponents (us). They hold out against evolution because it makes them unhappy and because science and liberalism are seen as allies.

To get evolution accepted, you have to show that its perspective is an immediate advantage, not that it is true.

This kind of brainless double digit IQ shit is hilarious.

Lets see, Evil Talking Snakes, A Giant Arc that carried two of every species on the planet, including Dinosaurs, The parting of an Ocean by the hand of one man, people turning into salt, a magical cup that has healing powers, all facts. But the idea that man might have evolved over time? Well that's just ludicrous.

He ought to stop taking talking points from O'Donnell.... After Bill Mahr was done with her "monkey" statement she looked like a total fool.

I have to wonder if he really believes this, or if he's just saying what he knows his audience wants to hear. That's what he's paid to do, after all - say whatever will keep them tuning in. In fact, from the perspective of his customers (those would be the advertisers), the more gullible and stupid the audience, the better.
