U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson: "Kendrick is surging"
Tallahassee, Florida -- Democratic U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson is predicting independent candidate Charlie Crist will fade in the closing days of the race for Florida's open Senate seat and Democrat Kendrick Meek will close the gap on Republican Marco Rubio.

Nelson dismisses the idea, pushed by some prominent Democrats, that Meek should drop out of the race to give Crist a better chance of defeating Rubio.

"Absolutely not, because I think Kendrick is surging and I think this is going to end up being a race between Kendrick and Marco."

____ "What happens in elections with an independent candidate, you see people come home to their own party preference as it gets closer and closer to the election. And I think that's exactly what it's going to end up being is a race between Kendrick and Marco."

1. Except that he's not...
The latest poll has Kendrick Meek at 20%. His average of the seven polls in October: 21%.

Crist is certainly fading, but I'm not seeing any forward momentum for Meek.

3. Crist will pick up the Democratic vote that won't go to Meek
as well as the Independents and Repubs who still favor him, but Rubio is currently running away with it.

4. Nelson is stumping for the Democrat...
something more Dems should have been doing from the get-go, instead of insisting that all dems vote for republiCON Crist.

5. that's my feeling as well
Rep. Meek was never treated with any significant amount of seriousness by the party leaders. Now we're looking at their political chameleon siphoning off Democratic votes and diluting the impact of Democratic voters.

6. They threw Meek under the bus early on...
hardly any money or support coming from the national party as well.

Let me tell you, FL is an important state to the electoral college and they should not be treating our party like this!!

10. I trust Nelson about as much as I trust Crist.

8. That's a common pattern.
It's also a common pattern for African-American voters to show up as undecided in polls until close to election day.

9. Whats really happening is Crist is changing his tune to try and
grab some more conservative votes from Rubio and it is pissing off the establishement Dems enough to launch little darts like this one.
