Russ Feingold touting Health Care Reform |
|
The editors of The New Republic have a great opening essay in the latest issue. They point out that Russ Feingold is airing an ad that "puts his support for health care reform--and his opponent's pledge to repeal it--front and center." The article then goes on to point out that there is only a small majority that is against the health care law but that, more importantly, a lot of those people think it doesn't go far enough.
I really hate to see the GOP sneering at what they call "Obamacare," but even more than that, I hate seeing Dems run from it. I think Feingold is right, and I hope to see more bragging on HCR between now and the election. We should be touting HCR enthusiastically. As the TNR editors say, "The less Democrats say about he Affordable Care Act, the more Republicans will convince voters that claims like these <[death panels, etc.>] are true."
One thing Bush and the GOP never, ever did was run from their own acts. They were America-destroying idiots, but at least they stood up for themselves. The Dems have success going for them. We should be proud and showing it.

The fact that he must have felt he had nothing to lose - hopefully he will show the rest of the Dem candidates that HCR CAN be run on successfully (though I'm not completely sold on it! It's only the best thing going at this point. By 2014, as long as it doesn't get scaled back, it will be much improved).
