Hollywood actor Danny Glover tells Rory Carroll why he's making a film about an uprising of slaves in Haiti. He's getting $18m (£9m) from the Venezuelan government to direct the film. Glover says Hugo Chávez is demonised by the US government - and he wants his audience to know the truth about slavery.

this film!~ What a world, no?! Venezuela paying Danny Glover $18 million to direct a movie on the uprising of slaves in Haiti..and Danny Glover says the US government is "demonizing Chavez"..YEAH!

I was hoping Venezuela would start to underwrite progressive cultural efforts. It would be nice if they produced some English-language magazines too focusing on hemispheric affairs.
