There are not "both sides" to teen suicide issue makes WaPo forbid the use of Twitter

The Washington Post sent a memo to its staffers telling journalists not to answer critics from Post-branded Twitter accounts or to use their personal accounts to “speak on behalf of the Post.”

The memo comes after the Post published a controversial guest article online, “Christian compassion requires the truth about harms of sexuality,” by Tony Perkins. (http://onfaith.washingtonpost.com/onfaith/guestvoices/2010/10/christian_compassion_requires_the_truth_about_harms_of_homosexuality.html)

The article was published after a number of suicides by teenagers, who were bullied for being gay. The article argued that homosexuality is a mental health issue, which prompted GLAAD, a gay activist group to complain about the article via Twitter and on its site. Responding to GLAAD’s public tweets, a staffer from The Washington Post tried to defend the publishing of the article as giving a platform for “both sides” of the debate. The response only fueled more frustration from GLAAD, which took to Twitter to say that there aren’t two sides to the issue at all

This is some of the vile stuff they tried to quietly "inject" into the issue and present it as journalism.

Stand behind GLAAD. There are no "both sides" here.

2. How the holy fuck does Perkins keep his job and get taken
seriously?

:wtf:

That was poor theology, poor logic, poorly argued, all to to support the blatantly bigoted idea that the suicides of LGBT teens are the fault of the gay community.

He claims that we are so abnormal and so evil by being out that our mere existence drives these kids to utter desperation and suicide! He believes that they can't face the idea of being one of us.

And he had the nerve to call this screed "Christian Compassion?" :grr:

Can anyone find any compassion anywhere in that article? I searched, and I can't find it. Please, if you can find it, can you please post it here and explain it.

And for those of you here who are Christian, can you explain how it is that every major denomination is lining up behind these beliefs even though Jesus doesn't say anything to support any of it? We hear from liberal Christians that this isn't real Christianity, but all the major churches and sects say that it is. Why? What the nearly universal attraction drawing churches to cherry pick hate out of Leviticus and shove it down our throats?

3. It's like having "both sides" of the climate change issue.
One side has science and facts. The other side has deception from the fossil fuel industry and the nutjobs who fall for it. When are they going to learn that "balance" is not an excuse to spread lies and/or hate?
