LOS ANGELES - A man trying to kill his girlfriend by stopping a car in front of an approaching train was himself killed Monday when the train hit the vehicle and launched it into him as he tried to flee, police said.

The girlfriend survived.

The man drove the car in front of a group of other vehicles stopped at a railroad crossing in the San Fernando Valley neighborhood of Sunland, Officer Mike Lopez said.

The driver, who was seen arguing with his girlfriend, parked the car on the tracks and jumped out, leaving her behind, Lopez said.

A northbound commuter train hit the rear of the car, hurling it into the man. The girlfriend was taken to the hospital, where she was in stable condition, Lopez said.

"She gets hit by a train and lives. He gets hit by his own car and he dies," Lopez said.

26. LOL, I was just hoping for a link and tossed out the name of a state
in which I could picture this happening and for some reason Texas came to mind.

I live in Colorado, where bizarro world is the norm, more often than not. However, I knew that it hadn't occurred here.

Turns out this happened in California.

As a native New Mexican, I met a lot of y'all Texans on the ski slopes and other outdoor recreational venues, growing up.

I love you guys and I know better than mess with Texas, :toast: MKJ

2. The girlfriend is doing better than I thought
Edited on Mon May-21-07 10:11 PM by Truthiness Inspector
in a previous article I read, she was listed in critical condition.

I'm glad to see she is now "stable."

The boyfriend definitely got his just desserts, but too bad he caused so much suffering for his GF, her family, and his own family, as well as the people on the train and the witnesses.

On edit, here is the story I read earlier: http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-metrolink22may22,0,2760661.story?coll=la-headlines-california

He is a real sweetie pie. I got an email from him because I adored a venture he once put some money into: a starving artists museum where small-time artists who normally would not get a break got to display their wares.

Handsome, smart and caring.

It seems pretty clear to me from this story and witnesses that yes he DID leave her on the tracks with intent to kill. And Bush is a good decent fine christian decider they would also have you believe.

32. Locally, there was an incident with a woodchipper
Several years ago, a guy attempted murder / suicide with his girlfriend, involving a woodchipper. Somehow, he convinced her to lay down on it with him, then he turned it on. He zipped right through, but luckily for her, for some reason her very long hair tangled the machine and she escaped with minor injuries.
