This to those up-in-arms over Juan Williams getting fired from NPR as an affront to "Freedom of Speech"!!!!

Mr. Williams spoke freely and sometimes freedom of speech can get people into trouble.

Does anyone here associated with people that freely admit bigoted view points?

3. Firing people because they don't agree with you is very progressive of you.

7. Yes and your point is?

Williams has shilled for the Republicans while maintaining a "neutral" front.

And you know what - Sometimes anger will overcome my progressive side.

Progressive doesn't mean that one should roll over and accept everyone's point of view.

You know that old canard, "Everyone's entitled to their own opinion"? Well as long as it's based in fact, yes. But just having an opinion based on supposition is worthless.

8. Being progressive certainly doesn't mean you roll over and accept everyone's POV
but it does mean that you atleast try to listen to another person's point of view.

What he said was a pretty stupid thing to say (eventhough I would bet the majority of americans think that way too). But the point he was making was that this feeling he has is highly irrational and there is no basis for it.

And what happens? They fire his ass just like that, when Im sure others on NPR have said much worse before him. Just as CNN did with Rick Sanchez. What Rick Sanchez said was beyond idiotic, but given his record and his prior statements you can't seriously believe that he hates jews, he might be a giant douche, but I don't believe he's a bigot. Yet again, he loses his job just like that because he was pissed one day that Jon Stewart made fun of him.

5. We've all been conditioned to be anxious/hostile about Muslims. That, in itself, is not bigotry -
it means that Americans have been assaulted and victimized by anti-Muslim propaganda. I don't know about Juan Williams and whether he is an anti-Muslim bigot. He is paid by Fox News, and that is in itself an indication of some ethical problems, in my book.

I hope NPR based its decision on a whole bunch more evidence that Williams has crossed a line from journalist to propagandist.
