GOP CANDIDATE Allegedly STOOD BY While A 14-Year Old Was STRIP SEARCHED.

" A Republican candidate in Massachusetts has been accused of allowing a fourteen-year-old girl to be illegally strip searched by a police officer while serving as a police sergeant, according to the Boston Globe.

The victim says Jeffrey D. Perry, who is serving his fourth term as a State Representative and running for Massachusetts' 10th Congressional District, was nearby when the illegal strip search happened, failed stop the abuse, and then tried to cover up the incident afterward.

"I cannot stand by silently any longer while what happened to me is discussed in the press," Lisa Allen said in a statement released to the Boston Globe. "It upsets me that Jeff Perry can run for Congress after what he did to me when I was fourteen years old."

The police officer who conducted the illegal strip search, Wareham police officer Scott Flanagan, admitted to the crime and was convicted of civil rights violations and indecent assault of a child in 1993.

The event occurred on May 22, 1991 while Allen and her friends where hanging out near two parked cars. According to a Wareham police report, Perry, Flanagan, and another officer approached them and found that one of the boys Allen was with had marijuana. Flanagan then ordered Allen to lift off her top and unbutton her pants.

1. Unfortunately, it was already a topic of the Republican primary and they chose this guy.
(against another guy who had also ethical issues. Not that many clean Republicans in MA).

Now, will Scott Brown, our Republican Senate, and Charlie Baker, our Republican candidate for Governor, comment on the issue or continue their support of Perry. Both are fathers of daughters. This is not that often I agree with Boston Globe columnist Joan Vennoachi, but for once today I agree:

Would Scott Brown ever want his daughters arrested by Jeff Perry or any of his pals on the force?"

2. Those are legitimate questions that NEED to be addressed by Scott Brown including Mitt Romney.
" And, it is also fair to ask: How can Senator Scott Brown, the father of two daughters, endorse Perry and praise his judgment in an ad that has been running on the candidate’s behalf, when that judgment is so obviously flawed? Perry has also been endorsed by former Governor Mitt Romney, another family-values Republican.

Sticking with Perry requires a warped definition of family and values.

-But voters, too, have a way of seeing only what they want to see. In this case, voting for Perry means turning a blind eye to truth, justice, and morality. "

3. Someone should ask Mitt Romney what his official position is on this matter.

Tisei also defended Jeffrey D. Perry, the Republican candidate in the 10th Congressional District, who is facing questions about his role as the supervisor of a police officer who illegally strip searched a teenager girl when Perry was a Wareham police sergeant in 1991. Baker is planning a rally with Perry on Cape Cod on Saturday. Tisei said Perry will make a “great congressman.”

“What happened happened 20 years ago and I think he’s doing a good job explaining it,” Tisei said.

4. I will be waiting for Scott Brown to say something about this.

Sadly, it won't happen. An odd side story to this is that the Kennedy/Chappaquiddick story is being raised by emails to the Globe writers. As in "what about Kennedy"? They act like Kennedy never had to answer questions to Chappaquiddick and his actions that night have been well reported. Thing is Perry is caught in a lie and keeps telling the same lie. Kennedy went through election after election and people kept voting him in and Chappaquiddick has always either been part of the election process(especially in his run for President) or always certainly a background issue. Perry has an election coming up and why this wouldn't be an issue for the voters shows us why Perry can't be elected... he's too dumb to get it.

11. It is actually telling that they are pointing to Kennedy and others
To me it shows that they know this was wrong and an issue - and they are going a step further to justify Republicans voting for Perry. That they equate this with Chappaquiddick, Gerry Stubbs' relationship with a page, and Frank's decades old boyfriend's actions - all things they always rant on about Democrats is interesting. (One strange one tried to add Kerry as a "paid gigolo", which I guess is Republican for happily married for 14 years to an extremely wealthy, brilliant, beautiful, good woman, who is as interested in saving the environment as he is ". ) All of us who are parents have heard the defense but ... Sally was worse, she .... - likely never thought it was persuasive. One difference in all these cases is that they were already in office and obviously people felt they were doing a good job.

I don't think Brown politically can back away at this point. Everything the woman spoke of was known in the primaries - when Brown (and I thing Romney) endorsed him. Brown was given a lot of credit for his win. If Keating wins, Brown may be blamed by some if the other guy was likely to have a chance. If Brown speaks against him now, that would be more likely. In addition, Perry is a tea party favorite - and I would bet they would primary him (which they are crazy enough to do anyway).

A big problem is that he recorded a radio ad that came out the day of the woman speaking out. In it he attacked Keating for raising this issue which he said did not directly involve Perry and he praised Perry's character. The woman's statement really changed nothing in terms of what Brown knew and it has now been a day since she came forward. It is becoming too late to change his stand - which - due to timing - almost makes his ad seem like his response to this woman.

12. Brown will not back away. Neither did Baker and Tisei (our so called moderate MA Republicans)
Edited on Thu Oct-21-10 03:18 PM by Mass
Here is Baker today: http://www.bluemassgroup.com/diary/21238/baker-perry-still-the-right-guy-for-the-job-in-washington

Can I say I am happy about that. This shows people who they are really: hypocrites and cowards.

Even Joan Vennoachi called for Brown to protest. So, the longest this story last, the more negative publicity they get.

He has been written of as more moderate than Brown. I hope enough voters think of their daughters, self or sisters. It seems that this girl may simply have been with a boy who had marijuana. That should not have come close to justifying what happened - and there is no way someone within that distance couldn't hear her cries and screams.

Edited to say that you were right on Brown - and he repeated his call that Keating stop the dirty politics - meaning using this.

Baker is a coward who will do whatever he can to avoid offending these nuts, whatever his personal opinions are. He even said in an interview he did not know enough about global climate change to have an opinion. Really? And he wants to be governor.

I just noticed that somebody reposted at the link the "Charlie likes cookies" video, which has the power to make me yell each time. This guy has no respect for himself or his family. Pure ambition.

15. That ad is creepy - he is annoying
Edited on Thu Oct-21-10 07:14 PM by karynnj
But not as creepy as Brown in his comments here - http://www.necn.com/10/21/10/Voters-react-to-Jeff-Perrys-strip-search/landing_politics.html?blockID=336252&feedID=4212

His excuse that Jeff is a father and grandfather has nothing to do with his not doing the right thing. That it was 2 decades ago is irrelevant. It is interesting that every person they spoke to seemed troubled by it.

gives himself some room for coming back on his view by saying he has not read the file. Baker, however, does not seem even to mind.

10. I agree.
from the Website of ' JaneDoeInc.

" Definition of Sexual Assault

Sexual assault and rape are crimes of violence and control, using sex acts as a weapon. Rape and sexual assault are not sexually motivated acts; rather, they stem from aggression, rage, sexism, and the determination to exercise power over someone else. Rape is also a legal term that is defined in Massachusetts by three elements: penetration of any orifice by any object; force or threat of force; against the will of the victim. Sexual assault is often more broadly defined as any sexual activity that is forced or coerced or unwanted..."
