Looks like attack on Iran IS probable.
When you put some news stories into context.

below the large map pic, see the 2nd news story.

First, this:

UAE opens naval base to bypass Hormuz.

Oct 21, 2010 11:01 EDT

Almost all oil exports from OPEC's fourth-largest producer now go through Gulf waters and pass the narrow strait, which separates the emirates from Iran, before reaching the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean.
The new base is located in the emirate of Fujairah, and gives direct access to the Arabian Sea.

"The base will also provide a quick response to natural and man-made disasters that may occur at sea, in addition to ... ensuring safe and quick passage for its oil exports," the official WAM news agency said
Iran has repeatedly threatened to block navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, through which about 60 percent of the world's oil supply passes, if it is ever attacked by the United States.

************************************************************************************************
What is NOT mentioned in this story is that the UAE has also built a pipeline to that same base.
Base guards pipeline, pipeline allows oil to bypass the Strait.

Map, here.

Ok, oil is now safe, avoids Hormuz, so the USA sells Saudi Arabia a HUGE supply of weapons.

The White House

Posted 10/20/2010 06:35 PM ET

The White House notified Congress that it plans to sell up to $60 bil in advanced weapons to Saudi Arabia in one of the largest-ever single U.S. arms deals. Proponents say the sale will help counter the rising influence of Iran.

1. We're into the eighth year of "Attack on Iran Imminent"
It could very well happen someday, and would be folly if it did, but I don't think it's any more imminent now than it has been in the last 3,000 days.

3. I think it's evidence that the UAE is protecting itself against contingencies
And arms deals with the Saudis are nothing new. Don't think it adds up to much more than that, IMO. I highly doubt Obama would authorize airstrikes and I have my doubts as to whether even the Israelis will. Still, the UAE would stand to lose big if it did happen, so even if the chance is small, it's a good policy for them to have other outlets.

5. Obama's big mistake: Tapping those with 90s WH 'experience' when that 'experience' consisted of
triangulation on domestic policy and following the GHWBush global corporate plans on foreign policy.

8. It might be just as profitable for the vultures to keep claiming Iran is a threat
than to attack Iran. I hope so.

9. No, it's not. If you want to hype fear,
go with the fact that we are selling weapons to Saudi Arabia - you know where the 9/11 hijackers mostly came from.

14. I had a political science professor who taught at the War College for a year
Nearly every scenario (this was in the 1980's) that involved some kind of blockade of the Strait of Hormuz resulted in World War III.

18. Obama Is Not That Dumb
Obama is not dumb enough to risk war with Iran right now. Only the crazy neo-cons like Sarah Palin would do that if she was President.
