Okay, first off I'm not slamming the video, it's nice enough if a tad trite, nor am I slamming Jesus himself (I actually like the historical figure, lots of good stuff said).

My question is, when exactly did the fundies get their hands on his image and what have they done to change it?

I can't quite put my finger on what's so different about it, but as an ex-Catholic it just seems SO different than all the pics and images I grew up with (and I went to Protestant churches from time to time and I don't recall seeing anything like that there either).

I've noticed this Jesus 2.0 thing before recently, but this video has so many pictures like that, I just thought it would make for an interesting discussion.

Like I said, I didn't think the video was so bad (not my thing, but nothing objectionable anyway)...

he was Jewish so they had to change him to look like a white American christian with a beard and darker skin.

We grew up with the Western European Jesus -- sort of looked like he could have been from England or Franch or Germany.

I think the Jesus 2.0 is an effort to make him look more like his ethnicity. Just my opinion.

4. This is why I thought it was a smart move on Islam's part to forbid pictures of Mohammed.

It prevents the whole White Jesus, Black Jesus, Asian Jesus, etc. thing. Not only does it put a face on Jesus, it totally sets him up for objectification, which distracts from the worship of a single God directly and only clouds the concept of monotheism in general.

Especially when you throw in Saints into the mix.

What a mess.

I mean, missing the point of monotheism in the first place is embarrassing enough but come on!

Islam and Judaism are pretty clear on what monotheism is. They, as far as I know, do not have any bizarre polythesitic loopholes at all when it comes to who is the "one true God". None of that trinity stuff, no saints- not like Christian Saints, anyway. The closest it gets with Judaism is occasionally really, really influential rabbis will get the "He's the Mosiach!" whisper, but that's a totally different thing and not as institutionalized as either the Trinity or Saints.

Just straight up monotheism.

I think if Jesus were around today, he'd be wearing what we all wear: jeans, t-shirts, and so on. Perhaps being a sort of at large Rabbi. And I really hope He'd have the sense to stay mullet-free. Probably running soup kitchen in some area that isn't lily-white.

I don't mind imagines of the Divine in contemporary surroundings, but wow, that really looks like he's in whitey land.

well since the day Bush stole the election I asked HIM why he hated America and if HE loved it to get rid of the republicans who were ruining our great country. And guess what he didn't he gave Bush another term. That's when I began to suspect that HE wasn't around and got so sick of this fostering of religion on people and the absolute horrific crimes that the Bush administration committed in the name of what they called Christianity that I figured I would give up and become an Atheist.
