comfortably numb
just thinking out loud here,
haven't posted regularly in weeks,

but every time i read the headlines i find myself in a state of numbness where i am no longer shocked by anything.
this isn't in reference to anything specific, so much as it is just aimed at everything i read anymore.

shocked, dismayed, horrified, saddened, uplifted, excited, angered.
none of these are applicable. nothing elicits an emotional reaction any longer.

just numbness.

is it just me?
have i reached my tipping point, or is the world just that fucked up?

that's all i got. just had to get that off my chest.

2. I find myself hiding threads because I can't bear thinking about
reading some of them that just pile on more pain.

3. "comfortably numb" is referring to a different kind of numbness
Edited on Thu Oct-21-10 07:12 PM by Taverner
That which happens when you have self medicated yourself to that state.

That being said, you're absolutely right!

5. Your condition can be cured by consuming the flesh of 13 human babies.
Better make 15, just in case.

6. I don't know why people cannot include an appropriate video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkJNyQfAprY

that really bothers me.

Is there something in particular which you feel that you SHOULD be outraged about or horrified over?

10. not necessarily but i'm pretty sure i know the root of what i'm feeling is.
my little sister is being deployed to Iraq in January. she's been in the army since '03 and has managed to avoid being deployed since because of her specialty.

well, that all changed a few weeks ago when she called with the news.
after that i don't really know what to do now.
she was stationed at Ft. Hood when the shooting happened, and narrowly avoided being a casualty there. her office was in the same building as his. and now she's being deployed. just worried about her.

i'm just venting tonight. some comments are making me laugh, others are kind of strange. i guess that's what i should expect posting something like this.

14. Or the lyrics perhaps?
Hello
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone home?
Come on, now.
I hear you're feeling down.
Well I can ease your pain,
Get you on your feet again.
Relax.
I need some information first.
Just the basic facts,
Can you show me where it hurts?
There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're sayin'.
When I was a child I had a fever.
My hands felt just like two balloons.
Now I got that feeling once again.
I can't explain, you would not understand.
This is not how I am.
I have become comfortably numb.
Ok.
Just a little pinprick.
There'll be no more ...Aaaaaahhhhh!
But you may feel a little sick.
Can you stand up?
I do believe it's working. Good.
That'll keep you going for the show.
Come on it's time to go.
There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're sayin'.
When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse,
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone.
I cannot put my finger on it now.
The child is grown, the dream is gone.
I have become comfortably numb.

or at lease *I'm* right there witchoo!

i find myself scrolling through the pages here and not wanting to open threads because I know it will upset me, disgust me or piss me off, but i also know I can't do a damnn thing from where my life stands...and the stupid is so thick I can't bear it. Also am really saturated with the bullshit speculators, everywhere i turn, saying that the 'thugs are gonna take back power, which is a recipe for even more disaster and my life is teetering on the edge as it is(not to mention the rest of most of us...). It makes me want to hide in a cave until mankind has finished itself off, really...

so much trouble, near & far, and nothing i can do to stop it... so sorry to hear about your sister. My son's close friend is 18, just graduated, and is being deployed after cmas...he *just* asked his girlfriend to marry him before he goes and asked me for advice on good ministers, it makes me want to weep...

i guess at times like these, all we have is eachother to vent with and laugh and cry with :grouphug:

I just posted about this Repug Candidate who is advocating violent overthrow if the Repugs lose... It's like no one cares that politicians are advocating throwing the Constitution out the window because more than half the people voting disagree with them.

I always thought politicians were at least supposed to pretend they loved their country.
