Man snuck into game with assault rifles
A man posing as a member of the color guard snuck into Michigan Stadium with two M16 assault rifles as the University of Michigan took on Michigan State Oct. 9 with more than 113,000 fans sitting in the stands, myFOXdetroit.com reported Thursday.

14. snuck is a perfectly good word
and grammatically correct.

snuck: past and past participle of sneak (websters).

17. Sneaked Versus Snuck & Past Tense Versus Past Participle
Sneaked Versus Snuck & Past Tense Versus Past Participle
by Danny Sullivan on February 21, 2006
in Britain, Writing

Driving back from the airport this weekend after our vacation, I put on an audio CD for the kids, one of the Horrid Henry stories. In part of the story, he was said to have “sneaked” into a room. Sneaked? Surely he “snuck” into the room, I thought. But then I lost confidence. Have I been saying “snuck” all these years by mistake?

<snip>

So how on earth did I come to believe that it was snuck rather than sneaked? AskOxford told me that I wasn’t alone and that it was an American form that has grown popular. Common Errors In English agreed but warned I’d be safer sticking with “sneaked.”

Random House’s The Mavens’ Word Of The Day left me most reassured about snuck. It wrote comprehensively about how usage had changed, how it is indeed unusual as a -eak verb to have a -uck form and why no one should feel “snuck” is non-standard for American English.

<snip>

So to bring it back to sneak, if you consider it to be a regular verb, you use -ed as the suffix for the past tense and the -ed suffix with a helper verb to make the past participle form used for the perfect tenses. Examples show it better:

Mass murder? He wouldn't get two rounds off without someone jumping him.

6. Looks like police were too willing to believe the story of someone in uniform

....snip....

U of M Police did clear the military man and allowed him into the stadium because when they checked his M16s they did not find any ammunition in the guns. They also did not find any ammunition on him, so they did not consider him a threat.

He did not just get into the stadium. The man, who is a full-time member of the National Guard, made his way onto the field with his M16s.

It was a member of the authorized color guard who noticed the man was not with them and reported the impostor to U of M Police.

"Then we escorted him out. He was very compliant, and he just continued to explain that he wanted to come to the game, (but) couldn't get a hold of a ticket and thought he'd use his uniform to be able to do that," Brown said.

It is not that he got into the stadium that troubles people, especially students who attended that game at the Big House, but that he did with two assault weapons. Loaded or not, police bought his story.

21. There's no way he could have legally taken M16 rifles out of an NG armory
Edited on Fri Oct-22-10 06:52 PM by slackmaster
No way. Armory weapons are strictly controlled. National Guard members can't take them home.

16. OK so he got in because there was no ammo
But if he had been a threat, his confederate (who had brought the ammo in previously) meets him. Then instead of going onto the field ...

F'n idiocy

19. I doubt very much that the rifles were actually M16 assault rifles, if they were firearms at all
Edited on Fri Oct-22-10 06:46 PM by slackmaster
Very few of them are owned by civilians, and those are extremely valuable.

I'm calling "Bullshit" on this one.

Dummy or disabled weapons intended for parade use, Airsoft guns, or possibly semiautomatic AR-15s (which I consider to be the least likely).

If they were actually M16s, they are most likely stolen government property, and the guy is in deep yogurt. But I doubt it.
