Deal between city, teachers union, will delay release of controversial teacher ratings

A deal between the city and the teachers union will delay the release the effectiveness ratings of 12,000 teachers.

The teachers union filed suit in Manhattan Supreme Court Thursday to block the city from releasing the information with teachers' names.

But before a judge could rule on a temporary restraining order, the city agreed to delay the release of teachers' names - at least until a Nov. 24 hearing.

The United Federation of Teachers is seeking to prevent the city Education Department from "irreparably damaging the professional reputation of thousands of public school teachers," the lawsuit says.
