just spent a few days in Salt Lake City....Al Sharpton...
was being demonized like no one can believe. KSL (fox/abc mormon radio station) is calling for the faithful to email Sharpton's commercial sponsors..."Imus was taken down...we can take him down as well"

The venom from callins was amazing... now Huffington reports he met with Mormon elder? Gee..the irony having Imus suck up to him and now he's doing the same.

1. How funny. Al does not need the radio show to have an
impact. In fact, I did not know he even had a program until Imus went on it to apologize or whatever.

Will this come to be known as the Black and White war?

8. I'm sure Sharpton was more polite than I would ever be.
Keeping a straight face around serious Mormons has always been a chore for me.

edited to say...this cracked me up...can't believe the Tribune printed it:

Outside the Family History library, a black heckler yelled as the New York City minister entered the building: "They've snowed you. They're all racists."

9. The LDS allowed Blacks into the Church for IRS reasons
They were on the verge of losing their non profit status because of bigotry when suddenly their prophet said the curse had been rmoved from the Black people and they could now join the priesthood of the LDS Church.

They had taught their members that Blacks were descendants of Cain and the mark of the black skin was their "curse".

"The LDS allowed Blacks into the Church for IRS reasons"

Blacks have always been allowed to join the church. its the priesthood they were not allowed to hold until 1978. In fact the founder of the church baptized black people into the church and gave them the priesthood (Brigham Young took away the priesthood but not membership).

There is no proof that the IRS had anything to do with it other than speculation by people not associated with the church or the IRS. (I have seen this over and over but never any proof - just repeats of it - even the religious tolerance website has something about it but does not reference it to anything. I believe the government was pressuring the church, however there is no evidence they threatened the tax exempt status - if you have a link to any IRS documents that say otherwise Id love to see them, I've search and search for actual sources and cant find one.)

17. thanks for making that clear...
re your posts and disclosing your agenda.

Have many Mormon friends (live 300 miles from your temple) and have had good experiences and horrid ones.

My company was bought out by global corp and forced to merge with SLC company... we sent employees there with equipment and trucks ect...in same building..desks side by side. Ordered by corporate to work together on bids...we gave them every job we received...yet they seeked out every bid from competitors who were Mormon...made no sense whatsoever...higher prices...but in the church.

Bought company back...and they wouldn't give my computers back or vehicles...left a rather bad taste in my mouth.

19. That would leave a bad taste in my mouth as well
I lived in Utah for 8 years and have seen it all. Just like with any group of people you will find jerks and non-jerks in them.

For further disclosure I should note I consider myself a cultural Mormon - I am member, but do not believe in the doctrines (Im gay -hence the rainbow in the pic - however it irks me beyond belief when people repeat the same old miss statements about the faith over and over, which happens endlessly here).

21. you're just the person I want to talk to
It's amazing what a huge population of gays there are in SLC? Why is that?

btw...grew up with Mormon "mafia" in Las Vegas...attended mutual (best partiers at high school) Respect many business people in SLC for amazing work ethic and have invested large amt of $ in one's business endeavor..but..have talked to accountants there...and the non LDS ones are making a fortune. (don't have to account to church what people tithe) What am saying I guess..it's a very close knit society.

22. Yeah SLC is well
lets put it this way, my whole family is LDS and none of them would live there - ever. There is a definite difference between mormons in Utah and mormons outside of Utah.

There are a ton of GLBT folk in SLC - in the 90's there were 7 gay bars in downtown alone. I think a lot of gay men and women LDS youth go to BYU/UofU/USU and come out and then stay in Utah while their families are out of state - its a safe heaven for them - they don't need to come out to their family and live in "zion". Its fascinating actually:)

10. "It was a paradise for lizards when young Brigham saw it first...
...He said I've seen some nasty deserts Lord, but this one here's the worst
Then the Lord called down to Brigham, said "I've got a great idea"
I want a mighty city--- and I think I want it here

Salt Lake City, that town of righteousness and fame
Salt Lake City, don't sound like much, but hell what's in a name?
Nobody ever sings about it, but Lord I be going there just the same

Salt Lake City, where it's so easy keeping straight
Salt Lake City, just really makes Des Moines look second rate
Ain't making no big deal about it
But I hear the Mormon girls are really great

Salt Lake City, hey, dig that Tabernacle Choir
Salt Lake City, yeah they be bound to take you higher
There just ain't no two ways about it, yes Lord they really light my fire

Well Brigham kicked a prairie dog, and he muttered in his beard
Said you've put me through some changes Lord but this one's really weird
The Lord just laughed at Brigham, said "you'd better get to work"
The next time I check in here, I want paradise on earth

Salt Lake City, where Brigham made the desert bloom
Salt Lake City, put a colour TV in every room
And they got them crazy Mormon chicks, yes I'll be going there real soon

Salt Lake City, hey feel that magic in the air
Salt Lake City, you know that's kind of why I like it there
Salt Lake City, well you know that's where I'm bound
Salt Lake City, I'm going down to Salt Lake town!

24. Mormons, what can you say...
Now, personally, I've always found religion to be absurd. Fine for others, but definitely not for me. Mormons, however, I find more than absurd. A known conman says he has special glasses to read "tablets" and people believe him? WTF? And they founded a whole religion on this? I still can't get over that people actually believe this stuff.

And Jesus came to the native americans? My NA side of the family is actually insulted by the mormon beliefs, but they are traditionalists and have disdain for most European religions since they were used to justify killing their ancestors.

I don't understand how women accept the belief system of any flavors of the big three religions, but especially mormonism. All three (judaism, christianity and islam) all have as one of their basic tenants that women are less than men. That women should serve man like man serves god. Yeah, works well for the men and since they made the rules, I can see why they made that one. Must be nice.

Religion. Feh. It's about the only place I agree with Hitchens.

And Al Sharpton is learning about Karma right now. Even though he probably thinks buddhists are evil since they don't believe in his god.
