Radio talker, Angle-backer: Angle shouldn’t apologize for “Asian” remarks Hispanic students racist

Yes, folks, that's what radio talk show host Heidi Harris said Wednesday on MSNBC's "The Ed Show" when asked about Sharron Angle's controversial comments to those Rancho High School Hispanic students. Harris said the kids were racist to be offended by being told they look Asian, she used air quotes (apparently that's like a secret handshake in the Angle campaign -- remember "autism") and said Angle should not apologize, as the students have asked her to do.

Alas, this kind of offensive nonsense may not be out of the ordinary for a frothing conservative talker. But Harris more than that -- she has been master of ceremonies at an Angle event and headlined a fundraiser for the GOP nominee.(My guess: The Harry Reid folks go nuts.)

-----

Heidi: No, no, no, that’s… wait a minute, wait a minute. The point is she doesn't dislike Latinos. Secondly, you know who should be asking for an apology? The Asian kids who apparently should be concerned that the Hispanics think it's insulting to be told that you look like an Asian.

-----

Harris: Yeah, if I were Asian I’d be really offended that the Latinos didn't like being called Asian. You better believe it!

9. Au Contrare...How Do You Think The GOTB Wins Elections?
They've made it a cottage industry in pandering hate into votes. Rachel Maddow gave a classic demonstration of it last night. The Rove strategery is to amp up the white vote as high as possible and suppress the rest. It's the only way the rushbpublicans can win...they're a regional minority party.

2. They don't get it at all.
People are not offended by being told they look asian - they are offended by your racial insensitivity and ignorance - its an off comment like saying all you people look alike to me. What I don't get is how she can claim to be called the first asian to serve as a state legislator. That should have asians fucking pissed too. Bitch! You don't look asian! I think you mistook ancient for asian.

3. And I kind of took the comment to imply
that somehow looking Asian was preferable to looking Hispanic. That it was a compliment that they didn't look Hispanic. I'm sure she's very confused as to why they didn't take it as one.

4. Angle should definitely not apologize. We need all the Hispanic votes we can get for Reid.
I say we encourage her to insult as many voters as possible.

6. Pretty obvious how Angle's "Asian" remarks serve her purposes.
If she can claim she doesn't know Hispanic people to see them, she can't be blamed for singling them out in her ad. She's taken a leaf from Colbert's wonderful, droll "I don't see race" bit, but the maniac Angle says it in earnest. Good grief, what's next? Jim DeMint saying he didn't know Alvin Greene was black?

7. This ignores the plight of the Asian community in Nevada.
Like in L A County the health industry is becoming plurality Philippino. The comments of Angel are insulting.

Plus the native Americans are Asian. They have blue butts when they are born. Sorry Mormons but they are originally Asian.

And let's talk sex workers. There are sooooo many Asian sex workers that please the rich Japanese, Chinese, and Korean gamblers in Las Vegas. Having been away from LV for a couple of years I was astonished at the number of Asian massage parlors there. But I guess I shouldn't be. I am not naive. But it used to be shrouded.

I really do hate LV. But ever since I got a Pinay SO....with sisters.... OK I like singing in the Kareoke bars. Asian girls soooo pretty.

10. Nothing worse than parsing racism.
the right wing doesn't like to be called out on their racism, so they do the next best thing, turn it around as if it's someone else's fault.

While they try to distract the public by "clarifying" angles stupid comment, they fail to see that they still are talking about Latinos and Asians as "things" (and not people) in the 3rd person. aka racism.

morons.
