My one and only Juan Williams comment on DU
I am aware of who Juan Williams is, but I am by no way familiar with him.

The NPR standard that one cannot mix opinion with news analysis or reporting seems the last vestige of actual news reporting on American teevee, even as NPR has some pretty hard right people in its management.

What Juan Williams said that got him fired was wrong and, to be honest, disgusting in a right wing sort of way. In fact, it makes me say I'd rather not fly with a guy like Juan Williams out of fear that the flight would be delayed while his whining results in a delay while some poor passenger is escorted off the flight for looking like a terrorist to Juan.

He is now where he belongs - as the clown playing the left wing punching bag on Fox News.

Best of luck, Juan. I hardly knew ye and I hardly want to.

4. No, I didn't.
I don't watch GMA. I watch the CBS Early Show simply because I prefer the local news of our CBS affiliate.

6. Did you notice how quickly Williams played the victim card?
He was on BillO's show last night moaning and whining about how unfair NPR is. It's the War On Williams! I heard him being defended (on NPR) by Gingrich, Huckabee, and of course $arah - all of whom work for Fox "News"!

Williams should thank NPR for allowing him to play the familiar right-wing role of poor, pathetic, helpless victim. This seems to be the one thing that all conservatives do and that always works with their base, though I'm not really sure why. What is so appealing about a bunch of squalling crybabies screeching "it's not fair!" like they were schoolchildren at recess?

I will never, ever understand conservatives.

8. Well I won't cry too much for him.
And in fact this was a good financial move for him....he will get a book deal for millions....and the conservatives will snap it up....and a big contract with fox...all and all he will make a lot of money off of this

9. Would he understand if teabaggers were afraid of flying with him?
Edited on Fri Oct-22-10 07:16 AM by lunatica
Because I guarantee that racists are very nervous flying with people who look different from them.

That he was fired is strange and I wouldn't support that in this particular case because I don't think he was being overtly racist. I think he's just a fearful person who thinks his fears justify painting Muslim people with a broad brush. I'm sure he thinks he's completely innocent. But I also think his boss has the right to fire him just like my boss has the right to fire me.

And FOX has rescued him and will, no doubt, encourage any and all latent racism to come forth. They're certainly giving him a million dollar raise and that's a lot of encouragement now that money is free speech.

11. Don't fly in and out of Detroit
You would think you were in the middle east. I work at an airport and people get very nervous when they see a women in head scarf etc but what they don't know is we have so many young muslins from red flagged countries flying out all the time because of a local college that teaches them how to fly... They blend in very well.

12. I find that hard to believe
I live and work among all races and religions (University of California at Berkeley) and I have yet to find anything to fear here. This university is an incredibly peaceful and tolerant place where everyone mixes quite well.

13. I remember years ago...
probably between Oklahoma City and 9-11, a guy on a plane with my infant daughter and me who looked very white supremacist: camo pants, shaved head, trooper boots, briefcase. I practically had a panic attack when I realized he was flying on our plane.

Needless to say, he was not intent on blowing up our plane.

Just sayin'.

15. Did he threaten you?
Because if he didn't maybe you need to figure out why you had that reaction. It may have not had anything to do with him, other than you were afraid.
