2. But doesn't the Bay area have a good transit? |
I know they never go everywhere you need to in a timely fashion. Where I live there is no public transport at least for generally able folks there is some special transport that I could take to dr at Durham(45miles) but I use up a whole day for one apt. Partner works 55 miles away, it was about 40, but the office moved. There used to be some train service but not anymore.

3. Going up to affect the elections? Read: The Political Control of the Economy.... |
by Ed Tufte who surmised that political parties are punished as the economy declines. He analyzes gas prices overtime and found that fluctuations of gas/oil prices correlate with control of government. He concludes that gas prices increase around election time to influence electoral outcomes. After the elections, prices stabilize or go down.

Check the prices when "W" was running for re-election. $2 - 4 months later $3.

4. Unfortunately, it's still "low" |
The price of gas is really low right now. I understand it doesn't feel that way. But if and when the economy starts to come back again in a significant way (like with real jobs and everything) the price will start to climb. Oil "should" be much closer to $100 a barrel. The current economic down turn is keeping the price down. And if China ever allows its currency to rise to a more realistic level, look out. Gas and oil will look "cheap" to them and then the price will really climb.

8. Simple, oil companies know if they raise the price of gas voters will blame those in office |
Another trick is to raise it far enough ahead of the election so those in charge can be perceived as bringing it down - which was what they tried back during the summer a few years back.
Oil Companies want republicans to win so easiest and most profitable way they can help is increasing gas prices.

9. Yep -- maybe you've noticed... |
...that, when Republicans are in power, gas prices suddenly decline a couple of months before the election. When Democrats are in power, they go up. Odd phenomenon, that. :eyes:

10. Remember when it went to $4.50? For no reason at all? |
They do it because they can. Think the French would put up with that? Did we protest? Block refinery roadways? No.
