Hey Dragon Lady Angle: Asians love when white people mimic us!
Edited on Fri Oct-22-10 08:37 AM by Generic Other
We Asians love when whites mimic us. Just love it! Reminds us of Charlie Chan, Fu Man Chu, David Carradine...oh yes. "I'm not a real Asian. I just play one on TV." Ah so. Confucius say. Ching Chong Chinaman. Me no speekee English...chop chop. Yellowface. You go you cute little CaucAsians!

1. Actually I would say Asians aren't into being outraged over slights...
Instead we roll with the punches and just try to do better.

5. Myth of the model minority
Frank Takahasi (author of "Myth of the Model Minority"), Gordan Hirabayashi (No-No Boys), the all-Japanese 442nd Infantry Regiment (most decorated of WW2), Frank Chin, Margaret Cho, Bruce Lee throw really good punches too. The documentary "The Slanted Screen," "Gunga Din Highway" many others explore this fetish white Americans have to be faux Asians with ugly stereotyping.

Yellow face, black face, red face. It's an American tradition that Angle perpetuates.

8. Well personally I don't care and I haven't heard much of a peep from anyone I know about the subject
Even when Johnathan Pryce was getting grief over Miss Saigon it was more over the missed opportunity to cast an Asian person in the role.

I am more upset over the bias against Asians in college acceptance. But we can't summon outrage on real issues much less this Hollywood Asian thng.

10. This is about a white teabagger suggesting she's the first Asian lawmaker in Nevada
Honestly! Get a grip.

I agree. The admissions thing sucks. I think all American citizens (TAXPAYERS who support the colleges and universities) should have priority admission in all state schools. And no qualified student of any race should be denied admission. Out-of-state students and non-citizens to the end of the line. As it is schools give them top priority because they pay full tuition. This is the real issue IMO where schools are concerned.

BTW, just because you don't find the thing with Sharron Angle offensive doesn't mean other Asians wouldn't. I find her very offensive. So appparently did a number of Latina students. I just put up the Hollywood stereotypes to remind folks there is a history of lack of sensitivity. It is an issue because it is ongoing and your raising the college admissions' policies is just another example (an egregious one at that!) I am with you there. VERY IMPORTANT issue. How often raised on DU? Or anywhere for that matter?

11. He was "searching" for his roots?
What was he 6'5" ? Yeah, the guy who starred in "The Searchers" should not have been playing Ghengis Khan. Still, karma got him in the end, I think. Didn't he film this movie in the radioactive part of Nevada? And isn't it where he got cancer?
